Great Website for Recipes

I thought I'd share this one here, for those of you that may not be familiar with it. There are some really good recipes here, as well as photographs that show technique and will also leave you drooling on your keyboard.

Thank you for the information. I nearly died laughing when I pulled up the website and was confronted with a dish of brussel sprouts (as you have guessed, not one of our favorites!). However, I looked at some of the other recipes and will use this site when stumped for dinner ideas. No sprouts, though . . . .

There is a wealth of recipes on the site. I happen to love brussel sprouts and I know a lot of people don't, but I never even thought of that initial visual; I'll bet it threw you for a loop! One year when I hosted Christmas dinner, I made brussel sprouts with bacon and onions and converted a few of my brussel hating guests. If you are feeling at all adventurous, I'd be happy to share that with you. It is my favorite way to prepare them.

Well... I can't say the green bait works... I can only say I harvest lots of eggplants and tomatillo ... They eat the radish to ground... I figure they fill up on the low stuff. I make my garlic spray with about a quart of warm water. I blend a whole bulb of garlic to a fine paste along with a small yellow onion. I let it set over night then pour it over a cloth to strain. I usually add a generous tsp of Cheyenne and a few tsp of dawn. Shake and put in mister... I use a pump model. Mix last a long while if not exposed to direct sun. I guess there is no telling what works best but I have been very successful. I would love some transplants. What kind? Maybe we can trade types.. I like black beauty...mostly because it peaks late season, Japanese white and erdirne (sp?). It a small striped variety. I'm open to something new. I will say I had a terrible tomato year last year and my winter garden has been the pits. Summer and winter moisture...arrrggggh. Kim

Wow - what great pasta salad recipes! I've copied all of them. Here's one from an old recipe swap site that no longer exists, that's supposed to be the kind of pasta salad people buy in delicatessens: The Store Cold Ziti Salad with Tomato and Peppers-:Bert Green Serving Size : 8 1-1/2 tablespoons Salt 1 pound Ziti pasta 1/4 cup milk 1 red onion 2 tomatoes 6 sweet pickles 2 small green peppers -- seeded 1 large shallot 1/2 cup sour cream 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise 2 packets George Washington brown bouillon powder Freshly ground pepper 1 teaspoon wine vinegar 1 tablespoon pickle juice 1/4 cup fresh dill -- roughly chopped Salt and pepper -- to taste Bring a 4-qt saucepan of water to a boil. Add 1 Tbl salt, then add the Ziti. Boil to al dente. Drain. Rinse in cold water. Drain again. Place the cooked Ziti in a bowl. Add enough milk (about 1/4 cup) to thoroughly moisten the Ziti and toss. Chop the onion, tomatoes, pickles, and peppers into 1/4-inch cubes. Reserve a large tablespoon of each for garnish. Mince the shallot. Beat the sour cream and mayonnaise together with a whisk until creamy, and add the bouillon, 1/2 Tbl salt, and the pepper. (Thin with milk if necessary). Pour over the Ziti. Add the shallots, tomatoes, pickles, green peppers, vinegar, and pickle juice. Mix well. Garnish with the reserved vegetables. Cut fresh dill over all. Serve chilled. tmd, I'd love the brussels sprouts recipe, I just love brussels sprouts and I love bacon. I cook mine in a way that might be similar, but I'd sure like to see yours!

I love Brussel sprouts regardless how it's prepared. Unfortunately, my family will only eat brussel sprouts once a year, at Christmas time.

tmd, thanks for the link. I have it bookmarked for future uses. Speaking of cooking website, my favorite is still Allrecipes.com. I like the rating system and the feedback from people who had actually tried making the dish. I find the tips given by the reviewers very helpful. I rather learning from someone else' mistakes than my own blunders! LOL Al

Easy! Cook bacon til crisp, remove, drain, crumble and set aside. Brown onions in bacon grease until they carmelize, remove and set aside. Clean and halve brussels and throw them into the bacon grease along with a bit of butter. Saute until you get a nice brown sear on them and then add a bit of chicken stock, cover and steam until tender crisp. Add reserved bacon and onions, season to taste with salt (or garlic salt) and pepper. Continue cooking to desired tenderness and to allow flavors to blend.
I modified this reipe from a French Chef that I worked with. He used the very thick slab bacon (that was almost like a smoked ham) chopped, added onions and lightly browned both together and then just added the steamed brussels along with butter, salt and pepper. Good either way.
