CHeck in with all the credit report agencies and put a freeze on your credit immediately.

Contact your bank immediately. Do you have online banking? Check NOW. Change your bank account numbers. In the future, go directly to the bank website. This could be a scam for identity theft. Watch all your credit cards and get a credit card report to see if any lines of credit have been opened using your social security number. Contact social security and tell them you suspect identity theft. You also might change the locks on your house as this one way they find out where you live for burglary. If you have children, talk to them about any strange people or phone calls. You cannot be too careful. Google Identity theft and you will find out a complete list of things to do.

Your bank would never send an e-mail asking for such information. At most, you'd receive an e-mail to let you know that you need to log in on the bank's online site, and then go to the "messages" area to see whatever it is that they want to tell/ask you.

Yes, you've definitely been tricked if you sent your actual SSN via a reply e-mail.

local reports and they also have computer people
who can track people by the little numbers on the

they track BACKWARDS...

Under no condition should you ever give ANY personal information to someone who initiates contact with you by phone, email, etc.. I have been contacted like this and have always told them that I do not discuss my financial matters over the phone and those bank emails get deleted ASAP. My bank says that no reputable financial institution contacts their customers in this way.

Your bank obviously knows your Social Security Number. You gave it to them when you opened your account, for tax purposes.

NEVER EVER give personal information in response to an e-mail.

NO credible organization with which you have a relationship will ever ask for that kind of personal information in an e-mail or via phone in a call that you did not originate!

As others have said, you must put fraud alert notices on your credit bureau reports (all three of them, quicker and more effective that way!) and you must maintain these as they expire over time.

I'm sorry to say it, but as others have pointed out, you're now at serious risk for identity theft.

Yes, you very likely have reason to have the blues!

Either call your local bank to ask for someone fairly high up in the branch, or for someone familiar with their security situation to find out whether they may want you to send the message, including full headers, to their headquarters.

Or go to their website, search for "Security" issues and read the information. Maybe you'll have the opportunity to send them a message, in which case you can ask whether they want you to forward the email to them, including "Full headers".

If you are on Yahoo, under the message box there's an instruction option at the right hand side "Full headers" and if you click on that, you'll get a much enlarged pedigree of the linkage that was followed to get the message to you. But most of them are spurious, I think.

If you're in Canada, go to www.phonebusters.ca? or maybe "dot com" or "dot org" - sorry, I forget.

That's a site operating Canada-wide by the RCMP and the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police). I think that they may not want you to send it unless you've suffered loss - sorry, I forget.

I'm sad to hear that you got suckered ... I thought that the info had been put on here often enough and explicitly enough that everyone would have learned how to recognize the scammers' methods and copying of the "real thing" sites' appearance, to make look-alikes, by now.

It's not your bank that you need to worry about. Right now the bad guys are opening credit card accounts using your information. They will run up thousands of dollars of charges and you won't get the bill (they give another address, not yours), and your cedit will be ruined.

You need a freeze on your credit. Your bank is the least of your troubles, just because it started with a phish looking like your bank.

No, you have to worry about ID theft from these people, and they are almost always run by organized crime in places like eastern Europe and Russia.

Even your mother's maiden name is way, way too much information to ever disclose to anyone who is not standing right in front of you. Your mother's maiden name is frequently used as verification for identification.

Like every one said, do everything necessary to protect yourself as much as possible and consider this a life lesson.

The internet and the email is not the place to ever, ever EVER give out a single bit of personal information. I personally believe that includes even your first name or what area in a state you reside. I understand that maybe even most would disagree with me, but it sure is better to be safe than to be sorry.
