Drip water pressure too high
Comments (8)Upon mike1059's suggestion about rain bird having the valve I need, I investigated the pressure regulator I already had.... the recommended water pressure is 70 psi but it is good up to 120 psi.... heck their website does not even mention the 70 psi (that is in the paper work with the valve)... http://www.rainbird.com/homeowner/products/drip/DripControlZoneKit-Inline.htm#.UWNpyTfJj58 So I tested the pressure after the regulator...bang on or close to 30psi -- which is good because I was not looking forward to adding another regulator. So the regulator is working even at the higher line pressure.... This leads me to the drip line itself... it is 1/4" orbit laser drilled every 6" -- I was expecting it to dribble out but is it suppose to mist or spray out? Is my line pressure suppose to be less than 30psi (the package did not really say anything about it)? I am curious if this is the difference between the laser drilled and the emitter style soaker lines. I even try reversing the soaker line, thinking maybe the arrows were printed on backwards... is there a chance the line is simply defective? Thanks, Mike...See MoreToo much jiggle? Comments (10)Dial gauges are not accurate and the ones used in home canners cannot be physically 'calibrated' as there is no means to do so. Taking them apart and bending elements inside will damage them further. A dial gauge is used only to show that some kind of pressure is present inside the canner. Weights that require steam pressure to lift them are more accurate for pressure control. Even home water heaters have over pressure valves, but these are usually a one time use, and are spring loaded. Once they blow, water escapes preventing an explosion or bursting. Newer Pressure canners also have another safety valve that will open if pressures exceed above 15 pounds. THis can happen if the steam vent rube s clogged, or the weight has stuck to the lid and doesn't allow excess steam to escape. I usually give a spritz of Pam to the inside hole of the weight before its place on the vent tube. Gentle like grandma in the rocking chair, vs. a kid that makes it go so far that it can tip over backwards violently. Thats called the 'grandma standard'....See MoreHigh Pressure Water from Street
Comments (6)As long as your T&P valve on the WH is repeatedly bleeding off excess pressure then nothing bad should happen BUT I'd want the problem corrected sooner than your plumber seems to want to get around to it cause if your T&P valve sticks closed then possible BOOM and it is now August. When a PRV is installed and adjusted the plumbing system in your home becomes a CLOSED system and that necessitates the installation of a thermal expansion tank. I'd also replace the T&P valve in the WH at the same time BUT make sure the new T&P is an exact replacement in length and temp and pressure for the one that is installed in the WH from the factory. The aproned ones at the box stores think T&P valves are all the same and whatever is on the shelf fits all but it doesn't. In my experience you might have to really search to find an exact replacement T&P valve and don't let ANYONE, including plumbers, tell you it doesn't matter. As far as cost, I've learned that plumbing always costs more than you expected, but it has to be done. Call a couple other plumbers and ask for a free quote. With the proper water pressure faucets, fixtures, appliances, hoses, and toilet flappers will last a lot longer before needing attention. Comments (4)After turning off the water heater, I took another measurement from the washing machine, and it was 78, which is still high. My outside hose bibs still register 120 because it turns out that my sprinkler and hose bibs are on a branch that is before the PRV. If I install a extension tank, will it bring down my water pressure to 60? And if I move the branch to be protected by the PRV, would it solve my water hammer issue? I know it will bring the water pressure down on that end....See Morepjb999
