I've had my Whitehaus fireclay sink (and another small Franke prep sink) for going on 2 years. Both have disposals attached. Neither one has chipped, although I am careful enough and do not drop skillets into them. They have broken a few glasses, though. I used to clean them w/magic erasers, but found that Bar Keeper's Friend really does better at removing the inevitable metal streaks.
Can't speak for cast iron, although I'm pretty certain that the glaze on fireclay is a lot harder (not as prone to scratching).

I have a fireclay undermount sink. When I did my research as to which type of material to decide upon, my understanding was that the fireclay is less prone to scratches and staining than the cast iron sinks. Although the fireclay tends to be more expensive than the cast iron I thought it was worth it if it meant that my sink would look nicer longer.

There are composite apron-front sinks. I have one made by Westbrass. It is made of a quartz composite. I have not installed it yet, but it is reversible. There is a thread about it here, and several GWebbers have them.

I have the Bristol single, 30 inch, and it is very large, deep, and pretty. I think it is 30x20x10.

Wow, what do composite sinks look like? Is it like silestone counters since they are both quartz or is it more like corian? Are they matte or glossy?

Mine is pure white, and it feels really smooth. I suppose similar to other composite sinks.
