Silly color question about Electrolux Assistent

Hope everyone are having a great holiday season. I have enjoyed reading posts on this forum but seldom posted ...

anyway, I have finally decided to bite the bullet and get the assistent but cannot decide on color. i have the choice of white, gray and black chrome, which would you choose if they are the same price?

also, we have extra low cabinets and our delonghi does not fit under. i dont expect the electrolux would but if anyone knows the height of the unit off their head, it would be great to know. it will be a bonus if it goes under the cabinets :D

Color should be a personal choice, depending on your kitchen. I would chose the white, unless stainless is available. Chrome finishes don't seem to hold up well at all.
I "Googled" the item, and the linked site gives the size specifications.

thanks for pointing out about the chrome and the link with the dimension. at least now i have only 2 choices :) both grey and white will go with kitchen, so having a tough time to decide ....

OK, for some silly answers! Some people seem to have a talent of planting a lot of things at once and it works for them. I like to start with a base, or bones, and work from there. I do it a little backwards. By bones, I mean evergreens or feature plants (long blooming, tropicals, etc) I start most of my beds in the spring or summer with summer blooming/ interest plants. Be sure to start with focal points like a birdbath, a bench, etc. I take pictures every week or two through the seasons. Sometimes I can see in a picture that I need more height, a larger leaf, a different color, texture, etc. during that time of year in a certain spot. This is fussy, but it's what I do: When I'm looking at the bed in the spring, say March 1 when crocus are blooming, then I put dowel rods dipped in paint in the ground where I want crocus. I color code the stick (about 12") yellow for daffs, pink for tulips, purple for crocus, etc. With the paint on the stick, it doesn't fade through the summer. Then in the fall I plant what my stick tells me to. The sticks are hidden by other plants. So I'm looking at a picture of my March garden and think, I'd like purple there, so in goes the crocus stick. The year round pictures are important because plants look different in different seasons. A blue juniper may be purplish in the winter and spring. A yellow thread cypress may be bronze in the winter, chartreuse in the spring, hot yellow in the summer, etc. I shop and visit gardens year round to see what's blooming. I have one bed that is all yellow and purple in March, yellow and orange in April, pink and purple in May, etc. I jam plants together and every week there is some new excitement; gifts from God. There are only a few weeks in late January something isn't happening out there and usually we're snow covered, so that's good! I water right on top of the leaves, never in the evening. If a plant gets mildew I either find a resistant variety or I find a similar plant. I use my up close and personal watering time to look for damage and disease. I don't want anything happening automatically out there! A timer may be convenient, but it won't find a Japanese beetle. I don't use standard mulch, I use pine fines and compost. I never take it off. It breaks down and improves the soil. Not like hardwood, waste of money IMHO. My beds have sharp drainage so most of my plants winter over. If I lose something I liked, I buy it again. I know I'm a tad "into" my garden. But you asked. Enjoy your paradise!

You may know that they were named in honor of the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn. I wonder how he pronounced his name. I have imagined that it was probably zin, not zeen, which has led me to the zin pronunciation. Any German speakers out there? More "Zin" than "Zeen," in German. But what about Diervilla? To the extent that people ever speak about it at all, it seems that most people say Dye-er-VIL-a, but Merriam-Webster gives Deer-VIL-a and I have one British example of DEER-vil-a. However, it's named for a French botanist with the surname Diereville, which I would pronounce as Dee-AIR-a-vee, so maybe the pronunciation should be Dee-air-VEE-ya. BTW, the real Albany is in New York.

Silly, basic question about gas oven with infrared broiler

I've just started using a BS 24" range. The broiler is only about 7" X 10" with the longer dimension side to side. So you have to be conscious of where your food is on the rack. I don't know if larger sizes have bigger elements or not. The heat is intense. If I put the rack on the top position and use the broiler pan that came with the stove a steak starts to char on the top 20 or 30 seconds after I put it in. The first one I tried caught fire after about a minute but it was on a flat pan that didn't let the fat drop down. I was hoping to be able to cook steaks like this and I'm not disappointed. When I drop the BS pan to the next position down it acts more like an electric. The electric ovens I've used had a top element that is spread over the whole top of the oven. They were cooler. A steak just turned gray no matter how hard I tried to char it.

I suspect that most of those tiled backsplashed from the "early days" were regular glossy squares of color, perhaps with a trim band or bullnose of contrasting color. The tile was very affordable and available. Today, you can only find a few of these tiles at any outlet; most of the action is on the higher end, so much so that it's hard to find many colors in the glossy square tile. I think the trend toward glam backsplashes occurred with the outbreak of more irregular glazes on decorative tiles in the 1970s and 1980s. Instead of making things regular and "sanitary," kitchens got decorated with macrame twine and coarse looking tile as if peasants had invaded the formerly pristine, controlled space. Chrome gave way to stainless steel and wood and formal tablesettings began to disappear. Everyday drinking glasses were made of colored glass (gold or green especially) and "smoke" colored glass was everywhere. Cloth napkins were made of large prints in coarse fabrics or people used paper towels and paper napkins. Earthy wooden salad bowls and hand-made pottery became the in thing. So... Bathroom-style regular square tiles made too slick as a contrast and a new aesthetic entered the kitchen and bathroom. Cooks of thirty or more years ago would be aghast at the rough-finish tiles and stones now appearing on backsplashes. However would they have cleaned them?

thank you all. white it is then :D i was going to get the white when it was the cheapest option and then found this canadian site that offered different colors at the same price which made things so much harder for me :)

thanks marigene for the height. 17.5" - that is 3.5" taller than my delonghi!

Notice that marigene says hers is an older model, at that height. The web site says the new ones are 13.5" If that makes a difference. . . . .

I've had mine for 13 or 14 years and it is 13.5 inches high. Mine is also white because that was the only colour offered back then.

Robin, the website i am going to order from is aviva.ca (its a canadian site but i will be getting it shipped to an US address because its a lot cheap if i pay in US$, but i figured it will be easier to get it from a canadian company if i ever have problem with the unit)

thanks ann for the info. i thought i had decided on the white one but i keep picturing the grey one in my kitchen still :) i must set myself a deadline otherwise i will never make a decision ...

You should compare the electrolux at Pleasant Hill Grain and make sure the aviva site comes with all the attachments Pleasant Hill Grain includes. It says on the site the mixer is 14 inches. Personally the grey looks like it is more of a matte surface and would be harder to clean. With the electrolux the color is mostly about the bowl.

Thanks Robin. I will go double check about the attachments now :) I will be pretty disappointed if it doesn't come with everything that pleasant hill offers ...

I do think the grey is with a shiny finish (from the photo on the pleasant hill site). but i have a feeling the white is going to win at the end. I give myself till friday to decide since i will be busy before the new year anyway.

yatyat, you have a number of different opinions here, but it all boils down to the simple fact that it is to be YOUR mixer, in YOUR kitchen. So go with what YOU love! It would probably help if there was a store nearby that carried this appliance, so you could go and actually view the different finishes side by side. But I doubt that is a possibility. So get what you like, and it sounds like the grey is calling you. . .

people like me should not get options! like you said, i so wish i could go to a store and check it out.

i am now thinking of ordering from pleasant hill just because i have only read good experience with them while i have not heard much about aviva at all (not saying that they are bad). and if i order from pleasant hill, i will for sure get the white for $30 less :D
