Do you remember the old 'WorkBasket' book?

It's no longer in print but is there another book like it or sort of like it? It was a book of knitting and crocheting patterns that came out,I think,monthly.I'd like to get my Mom one along the same lines as the WorkBasket.TIA!

Yes, I used to take it years ago. I liked the little recipes in it and the embroidery transfers. I don't know of another magazine like it. Maybe someone else does.

I remember a while ago a member asking for a particulr golden book and was just able to find it but now can't find the member. I know between my book adict mil and my self we have hundreds of books. I was thinking with the down turn in everything, wouldn't it make us all feel better if you could find a book for a new friend and send it her way and some day pss it along. I think that this would be easy and fun. Or if there are other books that you are looking for list the, we could copy the book o send a copy. I am looking for The Man who didn't wash his dishs. Outside, I enjoy those books too--- my late FIL went to school with Ferrol Sams and we love his novels. I hadn't realized he wrote essays as well. "When attending art shows, I swear off coffee table books but I am weak." We share that weakness, lol. Seems I am "always" never going to buy another huge book... Beagles, that room is fantastic, and I do see your pile of books peeking out from under that chair to the left :-) I'm with you on the kindle, but every now and then I like to hold a real book. Even though I find myself pushing the edge of the page instead of turning it (hanging head). No screen can reproduce the heft and color of those prints in large books, there is something about a good quality art print that is somehow more convincing than an image on a screen. Sloe gin, over the past decade or so I've seen many people putting lovely shelving in their dining rooms to combine functions or simply bring books into a room that doesn't often see them. I love that look, of a literary dining room! And your basket sounds eminently practical, we use our shagreen boxes and ceramic bowls for the same purpose--- the "stuff" has got to be corralled somehow. I have seen that Circus book, Robo, and the Atomic Ranch book also, they are both marvelous! It's clear that our collective enjoyment of these tomes is at least partly for the esthetic quality of the books themselves in addition to the content. I suppose that's what makes them "useful" decor :-) In some cases they might function purely as decor, as the leather books you've used, tinam. Have you seen the book purses that are so popular in some circles? Kate Spade has or had a few, and there's quite a cottage industry on Etsy making real old books into small handbags. They aren't a tenth big enough for me, but I love looking at them!

Did this just happen? He was the big heart throb when I was little I remember attending an Ice Capades show in Chicago and the spotlight was on him when he entered and took his seat I think he was going with Sonya Henie at the time. I liked him and thought he got better with time. In later years he was on Murder She wrote tv show. Another good performance was Elizabeth Taylor's DH in The Last Time I saw Paris

You can sometimes find copies of the "Work Basket" on eBay or Etsy.

(I don't sell anything on either site; I just "shop" a lot!)

Thanks everyone! I know I can buy old ones on ebay,but I wanted to get her a subscription to a new magazine if there was one.Think I might get her one for the "Grit",it's still around,I think,and she always enjoyed that one also.

I haven't thought of this one in a while!
My Mama has tons of them, got them everytime a new one came out. Oh the "stuff" she made for me while growing up from the patterns. I will have to look and see where they all are when I go over later....LOL

I subscribed many years ago. I know it's no longer in print. I think Vogue magazine put out a collection book of some of WB old patterns. Saw the book on Amazon but I'm too cheap to pay for it. I have plenty of knitting projects. And I can't crochet. I know I saved my old WBs. Now where did I put them? Maybe I can sell them on Ebay. I once found a Womans day from 1983 in my attic. Obviously some great recipe or craft idea in there!

I have Workbaskets dating back to the 1950's. It was a wonderful little digest. A little of this, a little of that. Alas, it is no more. And most of the others like it are gone, too. I used to subscribe to Crochet Digest, Hooked on Crochet, Annie's Crochet........... all gone. About the only thing close to it is Crochet World. She may be interested in that one.

I remember it CR. My aunt used to subscribe to it and she would give then to me later. I loved the crochet patterns, etc. I don't know of any other magazine to take its place.
