Thanks for everyone's opinion! I originally was thinking black, because its classic and I love it. However, my house is not classic. No matter how much I want it to be - it just isn't. Anyway... I literally took the fan deck out this morning and tried to find the shade closest to the existing shade on the doors and trim. Closest shade to the existing color on the BM fan deck is Waynesboro Taupe. It has more grey in it than I thought! What if I stay on that paint chip, and do the soft grey black color at the bottom, Dragon's Breath?? Horrible name, I know. I looked for Murkey Turkey and couldn't find it. LOL I could do browns too, the roof has plenty of brown in it, which is my main hesitation for doing the black. I was originally thinking this would be easy. I'd just do the black, since its in the brick. Now I'm concerned it would be competing against the overwhelming browns in the shingles. Maybe a grey-brown? BM Dash of Pepper?

I googled Spanish houses and found a bunch of images but the numbers keep changing on them so I can't reference them. The ones I like had dark trim around the windows. I know you just want to paint the door for now, but later down the road you might consider painting the fascia white or to match the tiles and then paint the window and the pergola that dark green color. I found a picture of a color that is something like that caramel apple, but maybe a little lighter. I think it would be cool if you planted some espaliered fruit trees or shrubs along that long wall on the left. With some soft up-lighting that would be very dramatic at night.

I love your home as is. What draws me though is the carriage doors on the garage. Which tells me there are many other details not seen overall. I would look at carriage door pics on the net and see what they have done with the rest of the home in colors and details. Add some more iron details to the garage. Ok, that explains the Swiss chalet look. From my perspective if you have a limited budget, keep the spindles and replace them when they need replacing. There is a balance between giving nod to one’s heritage and going ‘overboard’ on the theme look. It sounds like you don’t mind giving nod to the motel’s roots but want to keep it balanced with a more modern look which is entirely doable. I personally like the white stucco and then would punch it up with a door color that is bright and cheerful. The flowers are absolutely fabulous and one thing I thought of was to have this as a room option - meaning if I had a room overlooking flowers or with flowers fresh in my room everyday on vacation I might pay for the deluxe charge. What I hate in motels are (1) rooms that are unclean (2) smell stale (3) look dingy (4) noise (5) feel insecure - crime ridden. Now with that in mind, when you think Swiss/German what pops into your head “scrubby Dutch” - people who are fanatically clean. So that crisp white with your german rails are not a negative in my mind because if I had a Motel 6 versus a Swiss Chalet I’m headed to the Swiss Chalet.
