Decided on Giallo Ornamental

After flirting heavily with Blue Pearl, we changed our minds and decided to go light and more traditional. This is how our slab looks with the cabinet door:

I think it looks great. We're 99% sure we're doing the Giallo Ornamental as well. It's a great granite that works well with many different styles and colors! CONGRATS!!!

It seems like you could go several different directions to play off the granite: the warm beige world of travertine and the like, a dark or lighter gray direction to pick up on the flecks in the stone, or a deep, warm brown floor - like with wood-look plank tile - and cream colored tile walls. So what do you like, and what kind of feel do you want from the room? Traditional? Crisp and modern? Rustic? If you search google images or houzz with the granite name, you'll get lots of good ideas.

We just went through this decision with the same granite. We chose a marble subway tile that has mostly cream, gold, tan -- didn't want anything too busy between the granite and our oak cabinets. Someone on the decorating forum very kindly did a mockup for me -- scroll through the linked thread to see it. We'll be getting it installed sometime this or next week. Can't decide between black leathered or giallo ornamental granite

I have giallo ornamental and I can't imagine it in a leather finish. To me the leather finish looks best with the solids. It is an interesting look, but not very popular. I am wondering too if dust, fingerprints crumbs show more on this type of finish. I can tell you that with my giallo, I have to skim the surface with my hand because it hides the crumbs well. I agree that black and white is a classic look, but you have to like it. Have you thought about your backsplash? That may guide you in one direction or another.

We went through the same process about six months ago. Here are my 2 cents... Santa Cecilia tends to have much more gold and the dark spots are black. Giallo Ornamental (lite version) has a white background with the darkest color being brown. Giallo Ornamental (dark version) has a cream background with the darkest color being brown. I ended up with Giallo Ornamental dark version because I love the brown vs. black and loved the overall pattern on the slab that I picked. I LOVE my stone. My Mom chose GO light version for her much smaller kitchen. And she also was changing from white formica so the contrast in the change wasn't as great for her. Keep in mind that color, contrast and pattern all depends on the particular slab that you are looking at in the granite yard. But these are overall guidelines in my shopping experience.

I'm glad that you chose the Giallo Ornamental. It looks really nice with your oak. As much as I love Blue Pearl, I think the GO is a better choice.
Another darker granite that complements oak is tropic brown.

Nice choice. I don't think you can go wrong with GO. It will work well with your cabinets. We went with it also. I must admit, I was certainly drawn to several sexier slabs, but the GO fit the colors and style of my kitchen better. Plus, I found that it's a nice compliment to our kitchen rather than dominating the space.

LOVE that granite so much...I picked it too! :) I have white cabinets and I just fell in love with the color. I'm going all the way up with it for backsplash and I have a small kitchen so we need to go light. THey have a giallo ornamental lighter grays and darker browns. I went with the lighter. ANway, your cabinet looks great with the color. I think it's a good choice! Can't wait to see pics of the finished counters.

Thanks, I'm hoping it's going to look nice. I'm itching to pick out tile, flooring, and paint color, but really need to wait until it's in to decide for sure.

Installation early next week!

I love your decision; I have oak cabinets and chose giallo napoleon which is similar to your choice with more black and I really love it. I was tempted to get the dark; but chose something more traditional. I knew this would be the last countertop I would have so I wanted to make sure I wouldn't grow tired of it. Good choice!

You'll love it! I have New Ornamental, which from what I can tell is the same thing, and it doesn't show anything. Always looks clean:)
