So what makes the holes in the ground??
Comments (23)There may be significant environmental problems caused by using rat poison to get rid of voles. I don't know what the best solution is, but there is this definite disadvantage of using common rat poison. I've heard there are environmental friendly poisons that won't kill vole predators (birds of prey, cats, etc), but I'm not sure what these are. Maybe someone on here has researched this? There is also products called blockers that are soil additives that keep the voles from tunneling around a plant planted with this stuff mixed in with the soil. This would work for a few plants, but wouldn't be feesable for a whole yard. Then, there's the cats down at the pound that could always use a good home....See MoreWiden hole in granite
Comments (4)The carbide hole saws have a carbide bit, that centers the hole saw. Since the hole has already been drilled, there would be no way to center the hole saw. Fill the original hole was with a piece of soft wood, and glued in firmily. The tricky part is that 1/8" is only 1/16" larger (around the diameter). It might be difficult to keep the hole saw centered. I would try and cut the new hole "off center", so you would be cutting a 'crescent'....See Morewhere to drill holes on granite for faucet , soap dispenser...
Comments (11)Good you remembered about cutting out the plywood underneath where the holes will be in stone, Sylvia. Your plumber will thank you!!! Faucet on 1-3/4 sink is placed centered directly above the bowls bridge divider. Soap dispenser is wherever you want, but make sure it can reach/pour into sink. Air gap (most of CA requires one) on same side where your dishwasher is is best. (I put mine in between faucet and soap dispenser.) Spacing of my 3 holes is not equal, with air gap and dispenser closer together than space from faucet to airgap. Distance of holes from edge of stone = your installers will know where to. Sink to counter front edge distance is usually 3-1/2 to 4 inches. Won't your sink opening in granite be already cut out at fab shop? Hope so - less mess and a nice finished/polished edge assured. (They cut sink cutout in plywood using in-place granite slab as pattern, then remove slab again.) Good luck to you tomorrow....See MoreGranite Hole Placement/ Unable to Install Undermount Air Switch Nut
Comments (15)Yup. You are right Joseph Corlett--doesn't sound great. I don't know how people remodel more than 1 kitchen in a lifetime. And I don't know how you can deal daily with fixing so many botched counter / sink installs. My hat is off to you! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with GW. People like me really need and value your advice. This reno started out with optimism and energy to make the temporary kitchen an "adventure" and decisions are just opportunities. It's all wearing thin now with the little things that crop up (and the not so little things like counter problems). And I know I do not have it bad at all. Tomorrow will be a fresh day with fresh energy to deal with it. Thanks again Treb!...See Morebrownnugen
