More bad news for our family.

In July of last year we lost my cousin Dorothy Stark...

On Valentines day we lost her brother Keith Pleake (this is the one I grew up with...his mother raised me)

Also on Valentines day we lost Bill Clark Keith and Dorothy's brother in law.

Today I got news that Dorothy's oldest son Dale Stark is in the hospital full of cancer. A fast growing cancer that invaded all his lymph nodes (sp?)his lungs and masses other places.

They've put him on a breathing machine. He wanted the doctor to take it out. But the doctor said he couldn't ...if he did he would not be able to put it back because Dales neck is full of cancer and all swollen up. They took nearly two liters of fluid off his neck when he first went in.

Also Doctor said Dale would probably be gone in a couple of hours without the machine.

He has a long time girlfriend who he has wanted to marry for a long time. She was married 31 years to a man that beat her all the time...

Dale was so good to her and has made her so happy but because of what she went through with her x husband she was still afraid to get married again.

He asked her to marry him again. She called his sisters and ask them if they would give their blessings, they were very happy to...so today they had a wedding in the hospital. He cannot speak with the tube down his throat. So he wrote out his wedding vows and had his best friend read them to her.

The nurses got her flowers to carry and a small wedding cake. His sisters hired someone to take pictures. And they got married.

We don't know how long he will be with us. But doctors don't think it will be long. I hope everyday he has left will be the best days he's ever had.

This is very hard on all of us.

In all the sadness there will always be that wonderful bright spot of happiness he had in marrying the girl of his dreams. A love like that will last through eternity. Hugs to you and the family)

Ok, he just left. He said the reason he came to measure was because he wanted to see if they could do just single board replacement rather than replace the entire area, but after looking at it again, he said, no, the problem is too widespread. He said that the installer did give him the sq. footage,, but he was hoping they didn't have to replace the entire area which is approx. 400 sq.ft. including waste. Now he has to figure out all the costs of replacement for wood, labor, moulding, etc. Looks like it will happen but we still don't have a definite answer. We told him that we're not in a hurry to replace, that we'd just as soon wait til September when it's cooler and the HVAC doesn't have to be on when they tear up the wood which can cause a lot of dust. But we would like a definitive answer. So...more to come.

What good news! Babies do have a way of healing things...and to be named for your precious daughter. Just enjoy that baby as much as you can! Our second granddaughter was born just 2 weeks before our son and first granddaughter died. I have a sweet hand-lettered card that Millie made for the baby. My DIL let me have it, and I'm so grateful. I am sure we couldn't have begun healing as we did had we not had that new baby to love. Both DILs are expecting this spring, and I hope at least one will have a girl and maybe choose Millicent, at least for a middle name.

Sending prayers. A specialized children's hospital is the very best place he could be at the moment. I spent time with one of my nephew's at one of them the first few days after he was born, and the people there are truly God's miracle workers here on earth!

It is actually not a new house, just new to us. The sun room is one of those porches attached to the house. It is all windows including the 3 doors. I think right now there is those vertical hanging blinds. Yuck! We are hoping to keep the idea of the sun room, but just put on an addition in its place so that we can get rid of the slider off of the kitchen.

Good God, what a heart wrenching story. I don't know why it seems that some people just keep getting hit after hit of tragedy and challenges. It sure seems like your family has had their share and then some.

I hope his final days are as pain free as possible and he and his "bride" have as much time together as possible. So sad. And yet, love is still shining through.

I'm so sorry that your family is going through such trying times, it's more than anyone can handle but I do love the part of him wanting to marry her, it goes to show that the human spirit is alive no matter how ill the body may be and he's able to show his love by marrying her. God love both of them. I'll be praying for you.

What an ongoing trail of misery that your family has been treading for most of a year, Pattico! Sometimes it seems as though trouble gets piled on trouble!

May God's grace be with all of you through this difficult time.

Please offer my congratulations and good wishes to Dale and his new bride. I hope that they may have some of that famous/infamous "quality time" together while his life continues on this earth and visible to us and that his new wife may feel his spirit present with her for some time following his passing out of our sight.
