Should we use this wall for coffee/bar area?

Ok.. one more last thought before the work begins!!!

We have a wall where I show the hutch that I had planned on putting a tall hutch type piece of furniture-maybe cottage style since it is for the beach place.

This will be to the right of the sofa. There is around 6ft of wall there.

Should we consider moving the small bev. fridge over here? And just add 2 cabinets for storage and maybe some open shelving above? Could it be used for bar/coffee/toaster breakfast area or is it too far from DW/dishstorage? I love the look of open shelves with white dishes, bowls, etc but realize it's a bit far for the dishes there, would it be a good spot for coffee mugs, wine glasses etc ?

Just wondering before the electrical begins this weekend if that area is better for more Kitchen type use given the smaller space we have OR just a piece of

furniture?

bump... any last minute advice? DH is headed to do electrical tomorrow. Last chance for changes. Thx!

I'm no layout expert, but I would be tempted to put the bev fridge where the hutch is now if you are using it for water, soft drinks, and so on. If however, it would be wine storage, I would keep it as is. I think the idea of having the drinks closer to where people congregate would be a good idea.

I like a brick color with a grey stone. Around here that typically means granite for the stone since it is supplied locally, but a bluestone or a gray cement would work well. Just make sure that it works well color-wise with your red and gray pavers as well as with the house color. I would only use two masonry materials in such a small space, though if you want your fire pit to be a freestanding metal piece, I don’t think that will be a conflict.

Can you please post a picture of your current kitchen, along with a measured floor plan. Also, what were you hoping to achieve with your new kitchen? And some indication of budget would also help provide useful advice. Looking at your photo, it seems there is a pinch point between the fridge and peninsula. That could be helped by getting a taller, counter depth fridge. If you were hoping for more storage, taller upper cabinets would help. If you wanted to update the style, removing the plants and items above the cabinets and ledges would help - and that costs nothing! You could also change your light fixtures.

It was adjacent to a conservation area. Bears/deer/wild turkeys/alligators were very common We did have a screened lanai - that doesn’t stop a bear from coming through. Refrigerator bear attacks were common in our neighborhood. Most fridges were in garages and got hit when garage doors were left open.The bears opened the fridge - took out milk/yogurt/ice cream whatever. Drank/ate - folks found the empty containers. They did shut the door though! A few neighbors found bears sitting in their pools/spa. I wasn’t sorry to move to be honest. You definitely had to be careful walking at night.

cant see the details of the existing island. can you show it? soon you will have a 10 yr old kitchen. Its not done...lighting needs improvement...get your backsplash in....coffee bar is an extra. If island is willingly removed then what do you want to do? it is an opportunity for drawers which you lack....but I wouldnt dismantle island unless you favour a change for the sake of the island usage...not to pay for the work just to move it into coffee bar slot. You can certainly get a new better island w drawers/better lighting over the island/ better overhang/ if you need these things.....coffee bar is being used it appears . something on the wall there / an area rug for table/ a light fixture over table would be things I'd be willing to do along w finishing up the kitchen w island options as mentionned.

Yes I think that is our plan is to use it for addtl beverages as we got a cabinet depth fridge. we are used to a full size + a garage fridge in our primary home, so we thought an extra little fridge would be handy with all the cold drinks that we will need for the beach,etc..
And then we could put coffee creamer in it and put the coffee pot on the counter and fill it at the prep sink.
But just one more thing to figure out last minute... figure if we have to purchase either a hutch or 2 cabinets (ikea).. it wouldn't cost much more to have part of the kitchen there if it made sense. Thx!

once the power is in the wall you'll never care if you don't need it. but if someday you do need it, you'll be very happy it's already behind the sheetrock.
i say add electric anywhere you might ever want it--so go for it. i love small specialised nooks and a coffee/wine bar there will be just one more really nice feature in your beach house.

Really leaning that way.. thanks fallingwaters. Makes sense to run the electric for sure! He is just very detailed and wants to know the exact location and if there will be an outlet at above counter height on that wall (like for a coffee maker), rather than at a lower height for a lamp/wall plug type thing.

May gain more functional storage this way than with a hutch, and the extra cabinets would be useful with the lack of uppers and pantry space.
