Should I pick out pergo, granite countertops or furniture first?
Comments (9)First of all, toss out that word "match". There's nothing worse than a house with everything matchy matchy. It looks boring and doesn't really have focal points. What you want it to have things "harmonize" rather than match. The flooring should come first. It has to look good throughout the house, not just the kitchen, and it has to harmonize with the most elements. Like, is your woodwork painted or stained? Do you have a stained or painted front door? Are there other built ins besides the kitchen cabinets that you need to consider. You want your floor to be a different value than your cabinets. If your cabinets are light, go darker, if they're darker, go lighter. Something to have some contrast. Once you have your flooring figured out, then you can figure on a granite that will work with both the tones of the cabinet and the tones of the floor. Paint is next, because it's easily changed. Furniture, as long as it's neutral and not patterened, can fit well into pretty much any setting where you've got the major elements worked out....See MoreMarble CounterTops vs Granite
Comments (4)People are likely to tell you to do a search--which is a good idea. There have been several threads on this in here and I definitely found them helpful. In the meantime, I can tell you that I have carrara on my perimeter countertops. My GC and KD both said "NO WAY" in the beginning, but I forged ahead! Mine have been in for about six weeks and I love them. The biggest cons you'll hear are staining and etching. I haven't had any staining issues at all. My husband left a lid from a margarita mix container on one counter and it did etch (acidic). But I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who can find it. What you'll generally hear on here is that if you're willing to live with some "patina" meaning some etching and possibly staining (though there are poultice recipes that people seem to have great success with), then marble is a great choice. If you want a completely blemish-free surface, it may not be for you. Definitely do a search on here, though--and good luck!...See MoreHelp! What color/type of counter top should I pick?
Comments (2)I design and build a lot of kitchens but to me this is personel preference. You are the one that has to look at it every day and nobody on the internet can help you make that decision.I really like what you have picked but it's hard to tell without seeing what goes with it?...See MoreWhat color granite counter top should I choose?
Comments (3)I have a light countertop with my wood cabinet, but with your backsplash I think the darker one would look very nice. Sometime the backsplash will get damaged when removing the countertop or the new countertop is a different thickness causing a gap. Be sure to discuss this with your countertop person. You will have more options if you change the backsplash too, but there is no need to if your countertop place can make the present one work....See Moreclarygrace
