Help! What color/type of counter top should I pick?

Hi Everyone,

I am remodeling my kitchen. We have installed walnut ceramic wood like tiles and have french vanilla cabinets ordered. I really like mother of pearl for my backsplash, but I am unsure what color/type of countertop to order. We are also considering painting the room Sherwin Williams Sand Dollar sw6099.

Any suggestions?

I design and build a lot of kitchens but to me this is personel preference.You are the one that has to look at it every day and nobody on the internet can help you make that decision.I really like what you have picked but it's hard to tell without seeing what goes with it?

I love Delicatus granite it has pretty bits of mica or shiny stone in it, but its a pretty bolder pattern. IMO creme counters look best on darker cabinets, a marble type color, or leathered kodiak brown granite? Are you leaning toward light or dark?

Beautiful backsplash. And your kitchen sounds lovely. I've seen numerous granite and quartz slabs that match your colors. IMO, You really need to go to a stone yard and see the slabs in full. Sometimes the little sample pieces aren't the best to go by (especially with granite that has lots of movement). I would take your backsplash and a cabinet color sample and look at the slabs in person. Keep in mind lighting at the stone yards (whether outside or fluorescent) will vary.

I agree with Joanie and would let the backsplash be the star and pick something plain for your countertop. I don't what color I would suggest for counters, but would pull something from the mother of pearl. Definitely look at actual samples of everything together. I would pick the paint color last. I'm no color expert, but would suggest checking our Maria Killam's blog. I don't love her style, but I feel she does have a lot of sound advice regarding undertones.

I would go for a solid gray, I think, lighter than your floors. also, switch location of dishwasher and sink -- you need a landing spot for hot pans next to the stove, as well as prep space between sink and stove.

“What do you think of off white or gray with my cabinets?” Hi Barbara, I don’t think that particular gray is a good idea. May we please see images of the entire space that include your floor? Do you have any inspiration images you can share with us? They can be incredibly helpful. Just google images of kitchens with oak cabinets and show us a few that you like. Here are a few I’ve found.
