Transitioning From Natural Wood to Painted Trim

Hi! I usually post over on the garden and harvest forums, but I have a question about updating my office/sewing room.

Our house has natural oak trim throughout, around all the doorways and windows. I'm redoing my office/sewing room and would like to paint the trim in that room white and create a softer more feminine look. This is "my" room so hubby will let me do whatever I want, but I don't have the option of going with painted trim everywhere in the house because he really likes the wood (as do I).

So here's my question. In the doorway that transitions from the hallway into my room, where do I transition from paint to natural wood around the doorframe? It should be wood on the hall side and white on the room side. And what about the door? Can I paint one side of the door? That sounds a little weird?

Does anyone have a room with painted trim when the rest of the house isn't?

Or should I find another way to accomplish the look I want and forget about painting the trim in that room?

Thanks!
