cookie sheet 'divider racks' question

I've found some at Lowe's and HD, but they all require to be fastened to the back wall of the cabinet (as well as the bottom). The cabinet I'm wanting to put these dividers in is a deep one (over my double ovens), and I don't know if having them so far back will keep the cookie sheets, etc., in place good enough at the front of the cabinet where I need them to be reachable.

Am I over-thinking? Where did you get your dividers, etc.?

I have this setup--DIY wire racks over the oven. I haven't had things get shoved to the back, surprisingly enough. Sometimes muffin tins will get pushed back a little and snag on the rack but that's because my space is way overstuffed. It really does work!

I got mine at IKEA. They only attach to the bottom. I imagine the ones you are talking about are more stable, but I don't have any problem with mine. :)

Here is the one for CCC: Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies from the Episode: The Cookie Jar Avoid using a nonstick skillet to brown the butter; the dark color of the nonstick coating makes it difficult to gauge when the butter is browned. Use fresh, moist brown sugar instead of hardened brown sugar, which will make the cookies dry. This recipe works with light brown sugar, but the cookies will be less full-flavored. For our winning brand of chocolate chips, see related tasting. Makes 16 cookies 1 3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour (8 3/4 ounces) 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 14 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 3/4 sticks) 1/2 cup granulated sugar (3 1/2 ounces) 3/4 cups packed dark brown sugar (5 1/4 ounces) (see note) 1 teaspoon table salt 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 large egg 1 large egg yolk 1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips or chunks (see note) 3/4 cup chopped pecan or walnuts, toasted (optional) See Illustrations Below: Don't Bake in Batches 1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 375 degrees. Line 2 large (18- by 12-inch) baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk flour and baking soda together in medium bowl; set aside. 2. Heat 10 tablespoons butter in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until melted, about 2 minutes. Continue cooking, swirling pan constantly until butter is dark golden brown and has nutty aroma, 1 to 3 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and, using heatproof spatula, transfer browned butter to large heatproof bowl. Stir remaining 4 tablespoons butter into hot butter until completely melted. 3. Add both sugars, salt, and vanilla to bowl with butter and whisk until fully incorporated. Add egg and yolk and whisk until mixture is smooth with no sugar lumps remaining, about 30 seconds. Let mixture stand 3 minutes, then whisk for 30 seconds. Repeat process of resting and whisking 2 more times until mixture is thick, smooth, and shiny. Using rubber spatula or wooden spoon, stir in flour mixture until just combined, about 1 minute. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if using), giving dough final stir to ensure no flour pockets remain. 4. Divide dough into 16 portions, each about 3 tablespoons (or use #24 cookie scoop). Arrange 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets, 8 dough balls per sheet. (Smaller baking sheets can be used, but will require 3 batches.) 5. Bake cookies 1 tray at a time until cookies are golden brown and still puffy, and edges have begun to set but centers are still soft, 10 to 14 minutes, rotating baking sheet halfway through baking. Transfer baking sheet to wire rack; cool cookies completely before serving.

well, here's how I spaced 'em. One compartment is 3-3/4 inches, and the rest of 2-3/4 inches. I could have gone 1/4 inch smaller on all of them, but I wouldn't have wanted to go larger. They don't hold too much, each of them, and the box of cooling racks sits just outside the dividers (leans on the last one, in fact). So, it worked out. And now, I get to THROW AWAY the box the tray dividers were in, which has been sitting around my house for many months. I installed infrastructure AND decluttered, all at once! And, I think now I can take the drill downstairs, because I've decided I'm not going to keep the wire pull-out (wrong size, doesn't do what I need), so I don't need to install it. LOTS of decluttering. Oh, and now that the shelf in this cabinet is higher (to make room for the cookie sheets), I can stand the wholesale-club jumbo boxes of cereal UP, and fit more of them in. We've nearly never had a place to stash these; now we do!

Maxmom, A few months ago I had pull-out shelves installed in the lower cabinets! DH doesn't understand why those pullouts got me so excited. But prior to that I struggled with those nasty half shelves as you can see below. I added an extra half shelf to every cabinet so I wouldn't waste head space. How I dealt with that was labeled bins; still had to stand on head but if I put the bins back in order, then I could reach in without looking and pull out the correct bin. When I got the pullouts, I completely reorganized and Freecycled about 33% of the items in the cabinets. Boy it feels great. In fact I have invited a soon to be college student to come over for lunch and pick through what I didn't Freecycle. I think she will appreciate some of the high-end stuff because she loves to cook.

I found the site that had the cookie recipe. The link is below. The ones in the webpage look similar to Snickerdoodles, probably due to them being rolled in cinnamon sugar. Mine look boring, but they taste very good, tender with a good ginger bite. I didn't want to adulterate my 'ginger cookies' with 'cinnamon', so I mixed ginger with the rolling sugar. I used 1 Tbs of regular molasses(you can't taste it at all) and increased the butter to 1/2 cup because 1/4 cup seemed like too little(I don't do low-fat anything). The first part of the batch(on the right in the photo)puffed up a lot into little mountains(maybe the added butter?)and stayed that way. I never noticed(can you say ADD?)that the recipe called for rolling 1/2" balls...really? Does that seem right? I'm used to making fairly large cookies, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" balls. So for the rest of the batch(the ones on the left), I managed to get the dough balls down to 1" and I flattened them a little with the bottom of a glass. I think they look a little better. All you have to do is fasten the bottom. Place them forward leaving space for the door to close and the racks to stand up. Ours are about 9 inches back of the door on our deep oven cabinet

I got the Sunbeam brand ones from Lee Valley Tools (I'm sure they're available elsewhere). They attach to the back and base. I actually do need mine to be stable because I store a few things across the tops of the dividers--giant turkey cutting board, pizza pan, etc.. Ideally these would also go in the dividers, but they are so tall, if I stored them vertically, I wouldn't be able to reach the shelf above them.

If you are taller than me, check out Beuhl's setup--a shallow shelf with the dividers on the shelf above it instead of the more typical arrangement.

I had the same concern, and put a backstop at the back of the cabinet so they wouldn't go back that far. Mine would not have stayed up without the back support.

This cabinet is actaully deep enough for the fridge, so even deeper than a regular wall oven cabinet would be. I think I made mine so that they only go back 24" and that is not a problem. I think that cabinet is actually 30" deep and that was a bit too much, plus mine is not a real cabinet - it's open to the sheetrock wall in the back. I needed something to screw the holders into other than sheetrock.

my racks are 20" long so it's only 4" in the front that is "open" and that is not a problem. A few times I've had smaller things get hooked and pushed to the back when I sticking in other things, but it's not a big problem. As you can see, I have a lot of stuff there!

I have a cabinet with one of those wire dividers, and I really don't like it. It's always coming out of the clip, and then it flops down. Maybe it's not installed properly? Maybe I'm not careful enough? Or could be it's just cheap?

In the new kitchen, I'll have wooden dividers.

Dont' know how yours is Joyce, but mine won't come out witout either a screwdriver to losen the screw, or physically breaking the clip.

I think you could find something at the hardware store to replace your clip so the rack will not fall over, that would drive me nuts if mine did that.

Had another thought, if the backs of your cabinest are thin (1/4") it could be that the hole for the screw got stripped and the screw is not holding the clip tight. Mine goes into a 1/2" piece of plwyood and I used longer screws than what came with the unit.

I forgot I finally got around to asking this question! Thanks everyone. I did eventually find the thread where it was discussed before and saw some other pics and ideas. I can't find the ones from Ikea, but I'll keep looking. Meanwhile, I'll search Walmart for the ones Beuhl has.

REvashelf makes U shaped ones that screw directly into the bottom of the cabinet...no back clip.

I also have the ones from Walmart. I did not attach them at all - they just rest on the bottom of the cabinet. I put cushy cupboards down first. I had tried it without the cushy cupboards and they moved around too much. With the cushy cupboards they just move a little. They are weighted down pretty well with all kinds of cookie sheets, cutting boards, etc. I put 3 of them in the 36 inch cab above my fridge. Love them.

The only Rev-a-shelf dividers I've come across clip in the back???

Thanks for the idea of using that no-slip liner for underneath the Walmart ones.
