Goya Sazon con azafran

15 years ago

Okay, where did I see a recipe that had this as one of the ingredients? I did a search and all I found was the entry by sands99 on the favorite spice blend thread, but it was not a recipe.

I do remember seeing a recipe that someone posted recently that I was interested in trying and even wrote down this product name to see if it was in my supermarket. Today I saw it and bought some, but now can't find the recipe and can't even remember what the main ingredient is.

Am I hallucinating?

    This one?

    I have no idea where Fall River is, but I found a recipe for Chicken Mozanbique from a restaurant named the "Liberal Club" in Fall River, at the following URL: http://www.heraldnews.com/entertainment/dining/x899756015

    Chicken Mozambique
    Serves four

    * 24 ounces of chicken
    * 1 medium onion, diced
    * 2 Tbs. garlic chopped
    * 4 Tbs. butter, no substitutions
    * 2 packages Sazo n Goya-Con Azafra (found in the Portuguese section of local supermarkets)
    * 1 12-ounce can beer
    * 4 ounces hot sauce, or to taste
    * Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

    In a medium-sized pan, saute chicken in two tablespoons of butter until cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside. Saute onions and garlic with remaining two tablespoons of butter. Be careful not to allow the garlic to burn, as it will become very bitter. Deglaze the pan with the beer, and return the chicken to the pan. Add hot sauce and simmer for two to three minutes, stirring occasionally. Add remaining ingredients, and simmer an additional minute. Serve over rice, pasta, or anything you like. We like ours with french fries. Garnish with parsley and lemon if desired.

    Fall River is in southern coastal Massachusetts near the Rhode Island border. Emeril Lagasse hails from there...

    My brother used to live in Fall River.. but I really don't know much about it... He was in the navy at the time...

    I am anxious to make this too, but I think I will have to go to the internet to purchase the Goya Sazon con azafran...or try to find some saffron ... both of which I doubt can be found within 100 miles of these hills....

    Carolyn,
    I live in a small town in Alabama and I found it in the Latin section of my Publix. Surprised me when I found it.
    Generally I can't get many interesting items in the local grocery store here, but it's sure improved in the 38 years I've lived here.
