I need help with my kitchen wall color and my cabinet color!

My husband and I are currently remodeling our first home and I am stuck on what to do with my kitchen. I want to paint the cabinets, but I am not sure what color would look best with the wall color. The wall color is Valspar's Irish Cream. Should I paint the cabinets a dark espresso color, or should I paint them white? Or, should I paint the walls a completely different color and paint my cabinets white? The rest of the house has Valspar's Man Cave, Shaken Not Stirred, and Bell Tower stone -- all shades of gray. I want my kitchen to look sleek and classy.

What's the deal with the floor and appliances and countertops -- Are they staying or changing?

You can do any of your options depending on whether you like white or dark cabs. Then decide if you like the paint color you have or would prefer another. Narrow down those choices and you're on your way. I painted mine white and have never regretted it but many others like darker so it's a big decision.

Thanks. Your sink doesn't have enough overhang for what we are going for. It was cut on site so there was no error. They say ours is typically what they do but they are willing to come and shorten it a little bit. We want to be able to sweep food particles and whatever else directly into the sink. Your sink has a lip before the sink and I feel like food would get stuck there before it made it to the sink. The majority of pictures online show a sink with countertops like ours. Yours is a postive reveal. We still want a negative reveal just not as big as what we have now. Thanks

Your cabinets are lovely, must you paint them? If you must, I agree with choosing something else first, such as the granite. If you're doing your backsplash too, perhaps go tile shopping. If you fall in love with something, it will help narrow down your paint choices. Easier to do it that way as paint choices are much larger than granite/ tile choices.

You have the process a bit backwards. Painting cabinets is a very cumbersome task and takes a lot more work than repainting some walls. Leave your wall color out of the equation for now. Try instead to find a cabinet color that will work best with the more permanent fixtures in the room such as the flooring and counter tops. Coordinate those three things first and then choose a wall color that coordinates with the room over all.

That said, what are your plans for the counters and floors? Do you have any inspiration pictures that reflect a style you're going for?

First decide on your cabinet color. Painting a wall is cheap and easy to change over and over. It's a lot more labor intensive to paint cabs, best to do that once. So, IMO I don't think white is a good choice for you since you want sleek and classy. When I think sleek and classy, I think of dark cabs with stainless steel hardware. It would work well in a galley kitchen. I've seen really nice pictures of grey cabinets on Houzz.com. I'm really digging grey these days. Grey cabs, white marble counter, stainless hardware. Check out Houzz, they have great inspirational photos!

I'd be tempted to try painting the walls man cave first. I think it could look stunning with your cabinets and go a long way toward making your kitchen look sleek. If you have the $$ for it, I'd consider changing out your countertops to something less yellow. If you find a laminate you like in stock at a big box store you can change out the counter yourself for just a couple hundred dollars - and it's easier than painting the cabinets. While you have the countertop off, maybe put up a new backsplash behind the sink - something high contrast with both lights and darks in it. And ... voila! New kitchen!
