Hayjud Did you jinx me???

Hayjud posted last week about having a pj day. I responded that if I had pj's on in the daytime I had to be really sick. Well, I've had pj's on since last Friday.

Mary Anne, I hope you feel better soon.
It is one thing to wear pj's all day because you want to but having to because you are sick is awful.
Keeping you in my healing thoughts and prayers.

The beams are not as you would expect 16" centers. Remember when I first told you all about this project, I mentioned it was the cheapest structure of all times. Those horizontal beams are 23 3/4 inches apart. That doesn't count the thickness of the beam itself. I remember that number because I had a marvelous helper at the time who was between jobs as a computer programer and was working out his OC tendencies on the project. Each and every brace we cut to go between beams was measured twice and cut once. There are 6 braces between each roof beam and if there is an eighth inch deviation I'll unscrew each and every one. That's right! No nails on this project. We used decking screws, so a hole had to be drilled through the beams and into the ends of the cross piece before putting in one single screw, three screws per end. (He decided on 3 rather than two) Maybe I am a little OC myself? All I know is that I wrote the plan for only one side and 3 crosspieces each because I figured I would get all sorts of flack from my volunteers. When he asked if I wouldn't prefer to put in 3 on the other side too, I started grinning like an idiot and took off for the lumberyard. Do I hear over-engineering from the audience? Those lateral forces scare me silly. Up and down is easy! I was planning on coming back and doing the other side of the roof myself when no one else was around. I'm glad I'm not cutting the pieces for that bench back. My cheap tools would never get through it. Would love to see the finished product or a photo of same. I gave up on chess except when I was teaching the kids. We had some neighbors from H*** who invited us over for drinks. The first thing he does is haul out the chess set and start bragging. We are not that good at it but we could figure out we were better without too much difficulty. He challenged DH first and when he was beat, challenged me. I decided I would lose as fast as possible and get us out of an uncomfortable position. To my horror after 3 moves there was a sudden silence broken only by DH's struggle to avoid laughing. I looked at what I had been doing and saw I had played a classic fool's mate. I did the necessary and stood up abruptly, knocking the board off the table and saying his wife needed help in the kitchen. While it saved his ego we were never invited back. Gee, I wonder why? Sandy

I know, I know, flooring guy. If I had my way, we'd be staying in the apartment here while the floors get re-done but everything has been moved into the house. I didn't realize the floors dented that easily until this last week but when they took the protective cardboard off (before they stained) all the little holes in the floor should have been some indication to someone, right? Of course no one noticed those holes until I pointed them out--after the stain had been applied. So do I have a batch of bad wood? When the first coat of stain and finish didn't dry properly, has that caused further problems? Why DOES the floor dent so easily? And is it possible to now spot-stain the areas that they over-sanded? Will applying stain to certain spots even be possible now that the floors have three coats of Swedish Finish on them? All I have are questions (and lots of complaints). But you're right flooringguy, this is how hacks get away with it. And now the flooring company (I haven't even talked with them about this stuff) is not returning the builder's calls. Gee, I wonder why!

nanny. The loon can probably defend her egg pretty well from a muskrat. I have read/heard somewhere that they will jab you and can cause a pretty nasty injury from that pointed beak and you should never approach one, especially one that may be defending a nest. I found a sick loon on shore of a lake a few years ago. Its body is about the size of a Canadian goose so it's probably pretty strong. I just wish they would stay closer to the nest to keep those nasty muskrats away, they probably would eat the egg. As soon as she finishes laying the batch of eggs they will not hardly leave the nest.

Oh, Wow! I don't know where you got the idea that today was me birthday! I quit having those about 3 years ago, and I don't feel a day older then I did at that time!!! OK, so today I officially became an old person. Yep I'm even on Medicare now and I also belong to Silver Sneakers at the Health Club. Thank you, all of you, for the Birthday wishes. You are all so sweet and I wish I could pass each of you a slice of this beautiful cake that our son and his family brought me. It was Yummy, but I don't need all this! I need your help, please eat it for me! There, I smeared it on my screen, all you need to do is lick your screen! Man, I wish I could check to see if any of you tried it! It should taste as good as all that chocolate we use to share! I am in misery, sitting here growning and holding my overstuffed belly after all the eating we did today -- when will I learn to say NO!

Feel better soon. Staying in jammies all day is my favorite on a cold winter's day when I don't have to go out. Staying in jammies all day when you are sick is such a bummer.

A whole week! That's serious. You're on the computer today, so I hope that means you are feeling better -- maybe even dressed (in real clothes!)

I'm still sick. I can't walk into the kitchen as I get very sick. So I dont eat unless someone us here to get it for me thank goodness I have wonderful friends.
Jesse took off work and we will go to the doctor tomorrow. I haven't even been outside since a week ago Friday.
I don't know if I will have to go to the hospital or nor. I will have my I-phone with me so I can be in touch.

Feel better Mary Ann!! Did i miss a post or so,are you back on chemo again??I sure hope not it was bad enough one time,sure hope you're not having to do it again.Will send up some MEGA prayers for you that you'll soon be feeling better.Good luck and good health to you.
