Back from Southeast Asia

Three weeks and 9,000+ photos later, we return from Southeast Asia with a new appreciation of life in the US and comfortable beds!

We spent a total of 21 days seeing seven cities: Hong Kong, HaLong Bay, Hoi An and Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam, Bangkok Thailand, Singapore and Beijing China.

We witnessed some of the wealthiest people on earth and some of the poorest.

Saw multi-thousand dollar watches in stores with long lines waiting to get in and $10 knock-offs on the street.

Watched amazing city light shows in two countries.

Had feet cleaned by hundreds of small fish and ears cleaned by a tiny bird.

Ate at an elegant 5-star restaurant and a hot, dark and dingy open air market, just two blocks apart.

Visited a city home and an old farm home, both with three generations of family living in them.

Went to a night safari and daytime bird park, amazing orchids and botanical gardens.

Traveled by ship, boat, bus, subway, train, tram and elephant.

Ate excellent ship cuisine and delicious food and local beer in every country.

Met friends in Saigon and Singapore and made friends on the ship.

Saw temples and colors that took my breath away.
And motorbike and auto traffic that also took my breath away. Oh my.

Dealt with currency in Hong Kong dollar, Vietnamese Dong, Thailand Baht, Singapore dollar and Chinese Yuan.

Dressed for 95ð/100% humidity weather one day and near freezing weather the next.
No two days were the same.

All days were different and exciting and new but we are so happy to be home and we must have looked it. At the Los Angeles airport both the Immigration and the Customs officers looked at us, smiled and said "Bet you're happy to be home." They were the only officials in six countries that smiled. Even the guy with the drug sniffing Beagle at the LA airport walked around with a genuine smile while his cute little pup sniffed everyone's luggage on arrival.

God bless America.
