please help with granite selection for cherry kitchen

We are 98% finished with our kitchen layout, and are moving on to countertop selection. Our cabinets will be cherry with a "ginger" finish; flooring will probably be a natural oak (to match existing flooring) but in any event will be light in color.

We had originally focused on quartz (Zodiaq), primarily for ease of maintenance, but have been convinced by enough friends and family members with granite that the annual sealing is not a big deal and should not be a barrier to granite ownership. (Fingers crossed.) I looked at both dark ("Peacock" - although I love hungryheart's cherry/uba tuba combo) and lighter slabs (European Gold, Giallo Veneziano, Giallo Vicenza, and New Venetian Gold), and have preliminarily narrowed it to European Gold and New Venetian Gold.

The following is a picture of my cabinet color (small wood sample -- wish I had a larger door to share), sitting on top of a larger slab of New Venetian Gold and a smaller sample of European Gold.

I would love any opinions, suggestions, or photos of similar projects using suitable granite colors.

If you want to talk me out of using granite, I'm open to listening to that advice, too. :)

Here's a 3D photo of the project, to get a sense of the space. The kitchen window and exterior doors (will be a french door opening outward) open onto a covered porch, so we get natural light, but not an overabundant amount.

Love your kitchen design, desk area is gorgeous and I also like the way the 2 cabinets are at an angle. I had one cabinet that way in my old home. My pick is European gold and you'll never be sorry that you selected granite. In a 10 year period, I only resealed the kitchen twice.

We have a kitchen area with a lot less natural light, and therefore we went with the NVG to lighten the space up. My cabinets are similar to yours (perhaps a bit lighter) However, with your space, I think the European Gold would be beautiful.

Sometimes the white on white look is stunning and one granite that has kind of a marble look is Bianco Romano. Another calm, sedate and elegant stone is Fantasy White which is a quartzite I think. A stone with some movement and beautiful neutral gray on a white background is White Springs. If you really want the marble look and are willing to try it on the island where there would be less food preparation you might look at Danby Marble which comes in three colorations on a white background. Someone posted recently a beautiful kitchen with Imperial Danby Marble countertops - white with gold veining. I think you have lots of choices to go with the theme that you like. If you wanted to go dark you might look at Virginia Mist Honed with a marble backsplash. The combination of the tuxedo gray Virginia Mist Honed with its very light gray streaks and white carrara marble tile with light gray streaks is really stunning I think. Your kitchen is beautiful in its before stage. The cabinets are beautiful - at least as they appear in your photos. Happy planning. Will be interested in what you finally decide. Good Luck JB1176

Vt - Congrats on your new purchase or what appears to be Totally agree w/rjr - This kit is funky & quirky - I wouldn't spend a dime until you are in it and understand the space/function (or lack thereof) for awhile - appliances are costly & those look like they may not have the function a working kit needs. The DW looks like a small size? a big investment in granite is not going to help this kit - blue pearl will fight all the other blues and dated elements in the space a few less costly things come to mind that I think would help 1- getting rid of the popcorn ceiling - that will be labor intensive but worth it 2- better lighting! - the fluorescent fixture is screaming dated, as is the wood trim on the cabs 3. I'd paint the wood trim the same color as the cabs - take a door to your paint shop & ask them to match the color of cabs -remove door, sand, use a stain killer (zinsser makes a good one), and paint with a high quality scrubbable paint - you could even use BM floor paint which has expoxy so it will hold up - That would make a HUGE difference - the wood totally fades into the cabs 4. Get rid of WP and paint a nice quiet light color - 5. I'll take a look at that, I had not thought of brown. When we briefly considered quartz, we thought about raven-4120 ceasarstone, see link below. that is a "deep gray" I'm going to take a tile, paint sample and a piece of maple with me to the store and try holding it up to the granite to get an idea. But it is amazing how things look different to me when it is in place versus trying to compare small samples. I don't have that kind of artistic vision. I was hoping to see a picture of a kitchen with granite counters and a similar color scheme. I think European Gold too. It picks up the warmth of your cabinets better. The NVG looks colder against your cab color. Great looking kitchen btw. I have no input on granite.(I'm the "crazy" poster putting sandstone counters in my current build.) Originally, I was going to do zodiaq but fell in love with sandstone at the stone yard. (A friend of ours drug me out there to look at iron stone)

I love granite the natural beauty of stone.
It has been a fantastic surface. I would do it all
over again.

Your choices are beautiful!
I lean toward the European Gold but I would have to
see the entire slab. Can you get a pick of the slab?
Are you able to choose your own slab? Template?
What kind of edge are you thinking of?

And I have some pictures of Cherry with golden granites
but not the Euro Gold. Keep in mind granite names change a
bit from different parts of the country and depending where
they were taken from. . I hope they help you visulize.
I do think the Euro Gold is the one though.

Thanks, boxerpups! That granite info link will be very helpful, and the pictures you chose are great! The Saint Cecilia looks beautiful in those pictures - I may have to look at that slab in the granite yard.

I love the look of the Golden Wave, but my husband is put off by something with that large a pattern (that much "movement"? is that the proper term?)

I have the same cabinet color and floors. We went with Golden Crema. I tended to like the granites that were less uniform. But I do think you can't go wrong with either of your choices.

No I have not installed yet, just picked my slab. Cabinets are being delivered Thursday and then everything else should follow thereafter. I did post my slab and cabinet choice pics. I will repeat them below.

I pick New Venetian Gold. Yes, The European Gold would look nice but, for me, that would put way too much red in the kitchen.

I like both your granite selections. I am going with Giallo Ornamental with my medium cherry cabinets, which will be similar to yours. I wanted light granite with very little black in it. Santa Cecelia varies a lot block to block--some with way more black than others, so be sure to see several blocks before making a decision about that color.

I like European Gold best, it has touches of the cabinet color in it.

My niece has the same combination -- cherry cabinets, oak (laminate) floor, and she got Typhoon Bordeaux granite. Is it ever gorgeous with the cabinets.
