Granite Selection - Please Help!

Wife and me are about to go pick the granite for the kitchen. I think we're going to paint the cabinets white, cream or a light french green. We'll have an accent island. I think she is leaning toward white cabinets and green island.

What granite has the cold stone marble look? I think the timeless approach would be best since the house is somewhat formal french (despite the current country french kitchen tiles).

You might want to start by deciding on your budget and then see what stones are available in your price range. Marble and Limestone are more traditional French than granite...

Sometimes the white on white look is stunning and one granite that has kind of a marble look is Bianco Romano. Another calm, sedate and elegant stone is Fantasy White which is a quartzite I think. A stone with some movement and beautiful neutral gray on a white background is White Springs. If you really want the marble look and are willing to try it on the island where there would be less food preparation you might look at Danby Marble which comes in three colorations on a white background. Someone posted recently a beautiful kitchen with Imperial Danby Marble countertops - white with gold veining. I think you have lots of choices to go with the theme that you like.

If you wanted to go dark you might look at Virginia Mist Honed with a marble backsplash. The combination of the tuxedo gray Virginia Mist Honed with its very light gray streaks and white carrara marble tile with light gray streaks is really stunning I think.

Your kitchen is beautiful in its before stage. The cabinets are beautiful - at least as they appear in your photos. Happy planning. Will be interested in what you finally decide. Good Luck

Hi, everybody: It finally happened. The kitchen is done and I believe the colors and contrast match perfectly. Thank you! So far Shivakashi is winning by a knock out! It is true that it has a more organic feel to it, it has the earth colors and greens of a garden... I am worried that it will be too orange, but then I tend to gravitate towards orange, yellow or reds... I am not set on the wall color at all but it will probably be in that spectrum. I want the feeling to be fun and sunny. Thank you all who answered! What is ORB? The pulls are Ikea.

I'll take a look at that, I had not thought of brown. When we briefly considered quartz, we thought about raven-4120 ceasarstone, see link below. that is a "deep gray" I'm going to take a tile, paint sample and a piece of maple with me to the store and try holding it up to the granite to get an idea. But it is amazing how things look different to me when it is in place versus trying to compare small samples. I don't have that kind of artistic vision. I was hoping to see a picture of a kitchen with granite counters and a similar color scheme. Our cherry cabinets look a lot like yours. Ours have a colonial maple finish. After much agonizing, we chose Bianca Antico granite for the countertops, and River White for our wet bar and the kitchen table that we are having made. They're being installed tomorrow. Between your two choices, I really like Taj Majal I also don't love the Copenhagen - too much variance for me. I found it so hard to pick just the right countertop and drove my husband crazy with my indecision. In fact, when we went in this week to decide on seams and fabrication, I saw a Cambria piece that I fell in love with and even asked if we could switch. Although we (me) could have changed, when I looked at our granite slabs again, I was reassured we had made the right decision. And hubby breathed a sigh of relief (installation would have been delayed another 2 weeks). Even now, though, I'm still anxious to see it installed tomorrow & hoping, hoping I'll like it (I'll try to keep it to myself if I don't :). Good luck with your decision!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think we are settling on White Carrara marble everywhere with black, french green or red island cabinetry.
