Brother's sentencing was today

He had a female judge...I am so glad. She tore him a new one YEA. He even tried to argue with her and interrupt her (guess he thought he didn't have to show ANY woman respect..she showed him)! HAHA. He said he didnÂt remember what happened and that SisIL was wrong, the eye witness was wrong and the police report was wrong. She said basically "I donÂt think so". He said he didnÂt remember what happened. She said.."How convenient"

His lawyer wanted him to have time served be everything, he was so remorseful that it really was enough to be in jail since October. Judge said nope..he will be transferred to federal prison within the next couple of days. He will be there until December or January. He will then serve 7 months in the workhouseÂI have no idea what that is. He will then be on probation for who knows how long, SisIL didn't remember.

SisIL was so proud of herself. Brother tried to give her the "Evil Eye" when he left (crying), she just stared him down! I am so proud of her!! Sounded like she really pissed my Dad off too. She'd written a 4 page letter to the judge about how this had affected her life. The judge read parts of it outloud in the courtroom. I wish I could have been there (she didn't want me or my family there..I think she did it to protect me, she knew we were there in spirt though).

Wow. You sure have been on an emotional roller coaster on this, Vickey. I'm glad it's finally all settled. I'm sorry for all the trouble you've had. Wrong as he is, it has to be difficult to see your brother in this situation. The judge was definitely tough on him, and good for her. Good for your SIL too--she became so strong.

Wow, it's been such an ordeal. I hope she can start to heal now that the legal process is behind her. It's going to be hard to get back to "normalcy".

I can't get over the length of the sentence (I'm not complaining). You sure don't get that kind of time for an offense like this in Canada. I have a lot of men on my caseload who are on probation for domestic abuse, and they barely get a slap on the wrist.

And once again, good for you Vickey. You have been an amazing support for her, and under the most trying conditions too.

patty...i can feel your pain in your post...i am so sorry about the loss of your brother and how hard this day is for you.....there is a special place in my heart for sibling loss....because it is almost as if somehow and for some reason people who have not experienced it seem to think their pain is less than that of a parent losing a child or someone losing a spouse....i know because of the way people have treated my son on the loss of his sister,my daughter...i read in compassionate friends that when one loses a parent they have lost their past..and one that loses a spouse they have lost their present and when a parent loses a child they have lost their future...but when someone loses a sibling they have lost their past present and future......and i see it eveytime i look at the dead look in my sons eyes...Happy birthday to your brother and God bless you...terri

Great news, Vickey, I'm so happy for both you and your Sister in Law! Don't worry about what the rest of the family thinks, they'll either come around or not, but you did the right thing sticking by her side.
Now could you forward all this stuff about you and your sister in law's ordeal to Rhianna - hopefully she will have the gumption your sister in law had and say enough is enough.

Rhianna is back with her abuser. There is going to be something on Oprah tomorrow I think.
I"m glad your SIL will be able to breath a little easier for a while anyway. I'd be packing up and moving before he gets out.

Leslie is right watch Oprah. I saw something that says "love DOESN'T hurt". How very true that is.

Bless you Vickie and your DSIL and her family. Now I hope they can at some point put it all behind them. Take a breather sorta. I'm afraid she will really have to be on guard when he gets out, but for the time being all is safe.

Glad to hear good news for your SIL. Hopefully she and kids can get far away from him before he is released to work house. Yea for that female judge! We need more like her.
