Really study the website above..it is valuable! In fact, it's where I did my research before I made the decision to have the gastric bypass & also which surgeon to select. ALL info on Insurance Co's that pay for the surgery as well. One thought for you..unlike the bypass surgery where they stapled my stomach...the banded procedure involves an elastic type band around the portion of your stomach. Like a rubber band..the more you stretch it-in time it will lose it's elasticity. Meaning...rmember the reson to have it done...to help you lose weight. BUT-everytime you overeat-you are losing the full potential of the band. Just be dedicated to the cause-is all I'm saying. I weighed 325lbs the morning of my surgery and I lost 225 lbs in 14 months! That was 8 years ago & I'd do it again in a heartbeat (if my age allowed it now)..lol. I got down to 105lbs at one time until my Dr told me to put on 25-30lbs! Imagine that! I have held good-I weigh 134lbs now. You can read my profile on the website by (let's see if I remember)..where it says 'Read profiles', then hit FL then look for or type in my name Sharon C. in Largo. Good luck on your choice of surgery-you won't be sorry!
A friend of mine was going to have the band, then decided on the bypass instead....for many good reasons. Have some good talks with your drs and do alot of research.
My insurance doesn't cover the band. My choice is limited to the RNY (bypass) surgery. I'd love to do it but I'm still considering the impact it would have on my lifestyle It would be good for me physically but it could really hurt my bi-polar problem.
I have a good friend who did the band. She did lose weight but has gained some back because she doesn't eat what I would call a healthy diet. Also, she has to leave the table ALOT and go to the restroom and get sick.
Gals..there are 3 reasons anyone would get sick enough to leave the table and it's the same for any of the types of surgery..they are eating too fast, too much or the wrong foods. I'm no Dr but if they weren't doing any of the above-then there is/was a problem with the surgical 'plumbing'. By the way-did any of you see Carney Wilson on ET last night? She originally weighed 300 lbs, had the bypass & got down to (I believe she said) 140 lbs, but now weighs 230! She had her surgery about 6 months before I did. Case of going back to her bad eating habits. Too bad.
