My installation was included in my custom cabinet quote, so I can't say for sure. But I do know the big box stores around here (Central NJ) charge $100 per cabinet, plus extra for trim, so based on the # of cabinets, hardware, etc....I don't think $2209 seems unreasonable.

There are probably plenty of hacks who would do it cheaper, but as I've mentioned many times before, a good quality installer can take 10K worth of cabinets and make them look like 100K and a bad installer can take 100K worth of cabinets and make them look like 10K. As a "guideline" expect to pay between 10-20% of your cabinet cost for a professional installation. The more complex the layout and the more components the layout has, the more expensive the labor to install. Your quote sounds right in the ballpark to me for a quality install job.

It's sounds approximately in line with the sorts of quotes I got. ...very rough guess you understand. The whole thing is kind of breath-takingly expensive.

I'll ditto the others comments but if you're looking for numbers, we paid about $1200 for the installation of 8 base cabs and 8 upper cabs (no island but LS were installed in the corner upper and base cabinets). The molding was attached to the cabinets as they did not go to the ceiling and there is no soffit and no special light rail or anything. They installed the hardware before they brought the cabinets to the house. There were some trim pieces added to the end cabinets, but nothing crazy. They did have to come abck and add some extra toe-kick pieces (no extra charge).

That's about what the Amish cabinetmakers we're going with quoted for our install (actually I think it was $2400 and change). They quoted it separately so that we could decide to just have them delivered and install them ourselves or whatever. But we would rather have a skilled person install them, and like you we would rather have one person be responsible for the whole thing so there's only one person to go back to if there's a problem.

So in other words, yeah, based on my experience and what everyone else here has said, that quote is totally in line with what's normal. It probably seems expensive only because you've never installed a cabinet and can't imagine what could be so complicated about it. But unless there's some nationwide conspiracy among cabinetmakers, this is just what it costs. He's certainly not jacking the price up to make up his margins, since his quote is about the same as everyone else's (per this thread).

I'll ditto the rest of the replies - that was around what we paid. HOWEVER, make sure he's good at installing them too. Our cabinet guy did a lousy job and our GC ended up uninstalling half of them and fixing them for barely any charge because he said the subtle mistakes were bothering *him* so much! :-)

We were quoted around $1800, which includes removal of the old cabinets. I thought that was really expensive, but after reading all of the above, I am happy.

I think it sounds fair for the amount of cabinets installed.

I just quoted that out with what my installers charge...including tearout and waste removal....came to about $2200 as well.

This is a very helpful thread. I'm installing my own so I didn't even get a quote from the cabinet supplier. Now I know about how much I saved. The $400-$500 worth of extra/specialty tools, fasteners, etc. I've purchased to do the job seem cheap now. Between the cabinet and floor installs, I might be able to justify the cost of that new miter saw - WOO_HOO!!

I was quoted a range of $800 to $1400 from 4 custom people to do 8 base cabs, 6 upper cabs and a raised counter. New construction, so no removal.

My custom cab guy charges install by the lineal foot at $18.50. So my 64 lineal feet will cost me about $1200. He seems to be a perfectionist about it too.

Without seeing the layout, I'd say it's fair and might be a good deal if the trim and island are complex or the appliance panels are persnickety.

The price sounds right based on the three estimates that I got. But like mentioned above, make sure he's good. I had to fire my installer (grrrr....) due to numerous problems, many which are still surfacing weeks later. I would recommend that you wait to pay until you have tried out, sized up all of the cabinets.

I agree, sounds like you are getting a deal. I asked for estimates on L-shaped counter and lower cabinets and uppers with glass doors, 46" along one wall, 75" along the other, wood counter top (finished) and was quoted $1800. Installed.

Also, I've requested that the cabinet maker come to the house and see exactly where the cabinets will go and what style I want them to match. Thankfully, he lives a short distance away.

Ouch! I paid $750 for 10 bases, 5 uppers, mantle style hood with corbels, crown molding, light rail, and 2x4 framing to make 27 inch counters. Find an independent person who only installs for a living.

Wow. Mostly, seems like the price is reasonable but I'm not getting tear out with that price. The installer I actually casually know through my sister in law and he's very good. I was going to go to him directly but I didn't want to put him in a sticky situation. He does a lot of work with this cabinet company. Here's what caused me to question: original price for install $4k. Then he dropped it to $2209. Original price for cabinets $23k. Dropped to $15k ( still less than Kraftmaid and all plywood, painted with a very nice finish, and fully custom sizes). Price for Cambria $5900 and I just got a competitive quote for $4300. So you see, I've seen a pattern and now I question everything. The cabinets are good quality and I'm too far into the process to change tracks. I just have to be a diligent consumer.
