We are using IKEA - are you familiar with IKEA? IKEA can be a fairly easy DIY project if you are so inclined. Their drawers are full extension with the Blum soft close feature  even their cabinet doors have the soft close feature. IKEA is known for their flexibility and organizational products. They even have an ironing board that folds out from a drawer. Regarding the ironing board, there area *many* to choose from and it will likely depend on your space and needs. I looked at all of the options and decided on the LifeStyle Wall mounted board that I intend to mount to the back of the door. I didnÂt want to take up any cabinet or wall space, yet I wanted it easily accessible. This is not my laundry room, but I wanted you to see what IKEA can do. All I have ever seen for over the washer are 12 in deep. You can always go to lowes or another cabinet installation company and have custom cabinets built for your room. It would mean however in my humble opinion a lot of extra expense for a lot of wasted space that you could resolve with an inexpensive step stool and a set of standard cabinets. Most of the time your most used items would be within reach without step on the bottom shelves. My wife is only about your height and doesnt have to stand on her toes or jump up to get things out of our cabinets. With the cabinets at 12 inches the lid of the washer should have room to open if your machines arent flat agaist the wall. Otherwise with deep cabinets the extra clearance will be required and your cablinets will be possibly too high even if they stuck out far enough to bang your head on them while loading and unloading your washer. If you have 10 ft ceilings and stand 6 foot tall all would be AOK

muskokascp's current W/D look like Samsungs. Comparable-looking units on the Home Depot website are 4.2-4.5 cu ft for the washer and 7.5 cu ft for the dryer. The largest "unitized" W/Ds on the HD website had a a 3.4 cu ft washer and a 5.9 cu ft dryer. That may be full size, but it's 20% smaller than what she has now. Just sayin'. As far as the bending down thing goes, I've never understood that argument. People have been bending down to access their dryers forever (stack units excepted), and no one complained. But as soon as the washers went front-load, all of a sudden, bending down became some horrible chore to be avoided (it could just be that the appliance manufacturers coincidentally discovered a profit center in the form of the pedestals).

So much great advice (and no judgement - thank you!) — I wanted to update, we’ve confirmed it’s only shellac! Thankfully, and we’ll be working on removing as much as possible tomorrow, with heat off and windows open. Pics below, including my husband cleaning his mess lol. Great tips on the floor - you’re points are right on, and given the work the walls will be I’d like an easier alternative for the floors for sure. The left window is actually a door that a previous owner caulked shut, but we’re planning to open and make functional again. Otherwise there isn’t much room for anything, but it would be ideal to move the sink elsewhere to have more wiggle room in the “bathroom”. We did take a quick look today at more narrow utility sink/ vanity combos, and while not perfect should be an improvement. At this point it feels that is still quite far in the future, but hopeful the shellac removal is quicker than I anticipate.
