help me decide between open or closed cabinet
Comments (14)Thanks for the good ideas and thoughts. Quiltgirl thanks for the Houzz pictures -- I've been on that site for hours today looking for such images! I had also thought about the valence -- but not sure it'll work with a corner cab -- and the beadboard which I do think would help. Funny my KD didn't even suggest it, but I think she's anxious for me to go ahead and make my decision! We've made a lot of changes to the original plans over the past several weeks, though most of them were instigated by her. My husband is worried the open shelve might get messy -- since I actually use my teapots and cups and other pretty things, and I guess I worry that I'll get tired of it and then it'll be too late. So we are going to go with closed. I still wish I could decide last minute, but I don't want to bother with having to repaint my new cabinet shelves/interior if I decide I don't like it. Am thinking of putting a shelf on the wall opposite the sink, which is the walkway through the kitchen. And then I can put my teapots up there! (Except the few I use regularly.)...See MoreHelp me decide between three cabinet brands

Comments (15)You might be surprised to find that hardwood in a kitchen is not as horrible to keep up with as you think. PO in this house had hardwood in the kitchen, family room and mudroom and carpet everywhere else. I couldn't believe it, the 3 rooms that would be my last choice for hardwood are the only rooms that have it. My hardwood has worn surprisingly well in the kitchen- and I am really a total slob. I do wipe up water if I notice that I've dripped (most of the time, dh is much more vigilant than I am), but I'm sure that the 2 kids don't. And we have a dog too. I put a large washable rug in front of the sink and dishwasher and that really helped for those dripping wet hands reaching for the towel. It does help that we have a medium golden brown type stain and not highly polished, so it doesn't show dirt and dog hair and doesn't have to be glossy to look good. I have been pleasantly surprised by how the hardwood is holding up to our abuse. And happy not to be cleaning stains out of grout....See MoreHelp me decide where to stop window trim and where to tile
Comments (0)My contractor suggested taking the window trim to the ceiling topped with crown. There will be 2 wall sconces above windows with a wood hood going between the windows. If I do that, I have a place to end the backsplash to inner edge of windows. If I make the trim shorter, it will go right under the sconces and then I have the issue of tiling between the trim and crown and will tile the entire wall. The space between top of windows and ceiling is 12" There are 2 15" deep uppers that connect to countertop on either side, leaving 9" between window edge and cabinets not including the trim Now sure what to do with the sink wall backsplash or window trim either. This is the style of trim I wanted...See Morecawaps
