Thanks for the rug feedback! The colors turned out great, bright but vintagey feeling. Perfect for me. nosoccermom, I don't NEED all that furniture...but I kind of WANT all that furniture. Especially the freakin sweet coffee table. sueb, the main reason is that the main traffic path of the house cuts through by the table there. And kitchen stools back up to it. So it seems that ending the rug with the table kinda works? Also I have having a problem with getting enough rug in behind the chairs on the right without ending a rug right in the middle of the path from the laundry room to the kitchen. So it seemed to work to pull the rug all the way over to the wall on that side even though it's a bit oversized really. My house has no center hall or staircase, really no hallways at all, so all traffic goes through the rooms on either side. It's kind of confusing and people always get lost, which is impressive considering our main floor is less than 1000 square feet. I fell in love with the fabric, but I originally was looking for something with blue in it but wasn't finding anything that excited me. I kept coming back to this one, even though the scale of the pattern caused me to think it would be too large for small dining seats. But then I figured 'what the heck'. I didn't try to center the pattern (that would have cost a fortune for enough yardage to do it that way). I bought 3 yards, and had enough left over to make two small accent cushions for the living room. no-green-thumb, yes, the chairs are very sturdy. Other than some gummy residue on the arms of the captains chair, and a little on the upper backs, they needed only a wipedown with the Restore-a-finish. The whole project took very little time, and within the week from bringing it home, it was all done and sitting in our dining room. Re Lee Valley, I agree! It's a fabulous place that has quality products, and a lot of things they carry you cannot find anywhere else. It is so nice to browse through the store, and I particularly love the garden product section! Their staff is very knowledgeable and take the time to answer questions. The gentleman that served us took about a half hour to tell us how to acheive the glossy finish I wanted, didn't try to sell us products we didn't need. We walked out with a package of sanding disks and a confidence that we could follow his directions and get the results with the tabletop that we hoped for.

Have you consider a table with the finish in the tone of the seat?

It looks like you have enough room to pull the sectional toward the fireplace quite a bit. Even though that doesn't give you more floor space in the dining room, it would give the table and chairs more breathing room without being so close to the back of the sofa. A sleeker table and chairs, as posted by Patricia, would also make the space seem more spacious. Instead of a matching console or china cabinet, I'd think about either a color or something to match the wall color (or just light, like the walls). If you do a large piece like you have now, I'd do light. A long, low console could be any color, but with the wood floors and similarly colored tile, a contrasting color might be nice. If you did a lower console or buffet where the china cabinet is now with a large piece of art over it, in the view from the area of the green chairs that doorway to the kitchen would frame the view to the art instead of the wood cabinet you see now. It's a pretty home!
