white is harder to keep clean-LOOKing, as minor stains look clearly visible.
no point overcleaning it; good enough is good enough.
i got biscuit color. light beige-yellowish.
the color contrast with the countertop is something you get used to over time.
no point overdoing hue matchy-matchiness.
i might even consider getting some other color, darker, with a light or white countertop ; a spot of color in a light kitchen (if one day i renovate again for myself or for someone else).

i don't know about any plasticky appearance (in white)
i'll bet your lighting could make a difference.
in any case you get used to it.

i'm glad i got silgranite.
i could have had stainless, enameled cast, porcelain, or anything else.

Hmm - I already asked the question about white silgranite staining, and was reassured by a couple folks that it is very resistant to staining - guess I'm getting more confused instead of less. My cabs will be a darkish cherry. I don't want another color sink, even if it's in my head - I want white or stainless - what to do, what to do...

I love the look of stainless--when it's new or freshly cleaned and polished. Never when it's in use. It's always spotty and creepy looking. I know some will argue with me that theirs looks great. Plus, the noise of a ss drives me nuts. Maybe the newer expensive ones aren't like that, but my MIL's new cheap one is loud too.

I would prefer the white silgranit over ss anyday. You're right about the showrooms only having the darker colors. I'm not sure why that is. Have you tried some quick calls around to see if anyone has it in a showroom to see?

Thanks breezygirl, guess I could try to further research local dealers in search of a white one; won't hold out much hope though, as I've been lots of places, and they all have the brown or black one on display with the little sampleboard that shows small chips of all the colors available. If it is 80% granite, not understanding how it would look like plastic, but I don't want to find out the hard way either!

I had a thought on the way to the grocery store. What about the grey Blanco silgranit? It looks like silver IRL and could be mistaken across the room for stainless.

Good thought :o)! I have only seen little swatches of the grey one - hadn't considered it. I went on the Blanco website, and there is only one other dealer near me I haven't been to lately - I'm going to call them in the morning to see if by any chance they would have whole sinks in other colors. This may be kind of OT, but as advice to the original poster...

I kind of wish I'd thought about silgranit. However, I didn't find this site until after I'd picked most of my fixtures. I have 2 stainless steel sinks. I've had SS sinks for the past 7 or 8 years. I'd never before noticed them spotting. I also never had a prep sink - a sink in the middle of hte room with really good lighting over it).

Now, I see the spots and they totally bug me (but not enough to get me to dry/polish them after use)!

I have white Silgranite in this house. (SS in the last.) I do not think it looks like plastic....more like a matte stone feeling, IMO. It does need to be scoured out but no more than the SS did. I have Cambria Snowdon White counters and dark cherry cabs. I don't think SS would have worked for me aesthetically with the white counters.

I would try to look at the white or gray sink in person, if there's anywhere you can find them. I liked the Silgranit (especially the rave reviews) and that was the sink we'd settled on until we went to actually go buy it, and my husband's immediate reaction upon seeing it in person was that it looked like plastic and he absolutely did not want any part of it. I'd seen it many times in person and disagreed on the looks, but we nonetheless got cast iron instead. (He felt the same way about the Franke composite granite sink too, for whatever that's worth.)

michiganrachel, thanks - our current ss sink is over 40 yrs old, and I never thought it looked that bad - wondering if today's ss is lower quality like everything else.
amysrq, good to hear, I won't rule the white one out then -sounds like I'll have a somewhat similar look - have you posted any photos?

artemis78 - did you get to see a lighter color, or did he even think one of the dark ones looked like plastic? I've seen dark ones, and I think they look fine. Better take my DH to the plumbing supply store!...

Kindred also make a granite sink and I preferred the colour, In fact had ordered the kindred but there were complications with deliveries so I got the Blanco. The store called me at the last minute to say they could definitely get the Kindred the next day and I am glad that they called and I went with Kindred.

Ok, so I brought DH to plumbing supply store today. Had told him all the virtues of silgranite sinks, wanted to show him in person. He took one look, and guess what he said? "It looks like plastic." Later he added a comment about Corian - sound familiar - he must be related to some of your DH's :o). He starts eyeing the stainless steel & fireclay sinks. I cont. on about how much you all love your silgranit sinks, and get some backup support from the saleswoman. He's seems to be ok with it. I asked what color he likes best - he picked anthracite. I know that's probably the most popular color, but I haven't seen it with very light countertops/no dark veining. Again, ours will be pale bluish whitish, and our cabs will be darkish cherry - do you think the black sink wold look ok with that? Thanks.

it IS a good idea not to have a light background in the sink. I've already explained the overcleaning obsession that a light color of silgranite can lead to. It was the first response in this thread.

A dark sink will be fine. Eyes can get used to any color combination, and light/dark combos are not new by any means. If you want to go all matchymatchy, you look for other things in your kitchen that are dark and then you call them coordinated. I've had designers over who charge full fees for saying that.

Thanks davidro, sounds good. I did read your first response. Initially though, I feared a black sink would look like a black hole, and black just seemed off to me for a sink since I've only ever had stainless. But it does look nice in the showroom, and if DH is willing to go for it, then anthracite it is!
