I call them wraps. Never roly poly because of that is what they call sowbugs in CA. Those little buggies that curl up in a circle if you touch them. Just a different culture thing.
I do like wraps and make them alot like you say, you can put anything inside. In fact some of the places in the midwest call them tacos. No they are NOT tacos.

Excuse me, but Roly Poly is the name of the restaurant. Been in my area for a long time and very popular.

I know exactly what a roly poly is. Used to pay with them as a kid.

This is Roly Poly restaurant.
They do not serve tacos.
Rolled sandwiches.

Effective Organic Control to use is Diatect V. This is from the Natural Gardener website: Protect your new vegetable transplants from trouble. Have you ever had a wonderful day of gardening only to return the next morning to find half your transplants have been cut off at the base? Well, there are two possible culprits, the cutworm or pill bugs (aka rolly-pollies). A cutworm is a caterpillar that lives in the soil and will wrap itself around a new transplant at the base and cut it off. You can either protect the plant with a collar around the base or place a stick next to the stem so the cutworm will wrap around the stick along with the stem and not be able to cut through. Once the plant is established, the cutworm is not affective. The Pill Bug will gnaw at the base of a seedling or a new transplant. Once the seedling or transplant is established, the pill bug will generally leave the plant alone, so you need to be diligent about protection for only a short period of time. First for pill bug control keep the area on the drier side. Water early in the morning. This allows the top part of the soil to dry before night, when the pill bugs are active. Also keep mulch away from plants during this period of time. In the evening dust with Diatect V, diatomaceous earth (D.E.) and pyrethrin, around base of plants. Set up boards, grapefruit halves or banana peels as traps for the pill bugs and scoop them up every morning and dump into soapy water to get the population down. Pill bugs, like many pests, have their place in life as decomposers of dead plants or weak plants, so control is only needed during the early stages of the plant's life. The rest of the time let the pill bugs do their work. Roger and John have been doing tests here at the nursery and have been having great success with the certified organic pesticide Diatect V. It is a mixture of Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) and pyrethrin. It does not have piperonyl butoxide as many other D.E./ Pyrethrin mixes do. Some of the harder to control bugs that we have success with include four-line bugs, squash bugs, stink bugs, harlequin bugs and other hard-shell bugs. It is best applied with an applicator to really get the dust where the bugs are - on the underside of leaves and the ground where they jump when they are disturbed. We have several different types. RogerÂs and JohnÂs favorites include the pest pistol, which is a simple accordion style pump bottle, and the dustin-mizer which is a hand-crank applicator that electrically charges the dust particle so it is attracted and sticks the plant - a must for large gardens. When you apply this product, you must take care not to inhale the very sharp silica particles of the D.E. Here is a link that might be useful: Organic pest control

So maybe they really appreciate the compost I just added to my beds, esp. the one I haven't gotten around to mulching yet. It is a moist, shady bed so they're could be some fungus--I'll get a fungicide and see if that knocks out both problem. Something's been eating the turk's cap and can't see any mealy bugs, aphids or the usual culprits so I thought it might be the roly polies. I'll get some mulch on it soon and that might help too. No kiddos yet, but I did love playing with them as a little girl--so not just the boys!

Just saying, somethin's gotta give! Yesterday was a "lazy" day, no construction, finishing, or housework (other than dishes), but just running errands, taking care of the flowerbeds, and having the kids on vacation was busy enough. Today's the really busy day, I noticed that the kitchen, mudroom need to be vac'd and mopped, the FR and LR plus all the upstairs need vac'd, and even though I cleaned bathrooms Sat they need it again. In DH's defense, he works an office job all day, then comes home and waters, weeds the veggie garden, 1x/2x per week mows the lawn (and it's a big lawn) and often is working on our old commuter car (176,000 miles and I don't know how much longer it will last). Tonight he and DS have Scouts. On weekends DH tends the lawn and garden *and* usually is doing something in the fields or woods (though I question whether we really need a path cleared to the creek right now, but since he did it now I want him to cut out the old barbed wire so the kids don't get hurt). Next nice w/e we have hay to get in (if my dad cuts and bales it), and one of these days we're going to build a barn and then there will be more work to do with cows. I just tell him "Let me finish the house first!" Took a walk with DH down by the creek this Sat night (then made him take me out to Chinese since I didn't have time to make the stuffed peppers I had planned on). He found more blueberry bushes, the ones deep in the woods have more berries, maybe b/c they were more sheltered from the late frost we had. Dad mowed down a lot of the blackberries last year (I was mad!) but we still have canes bearing so even if it's not a good year for blueberries we should have decent amount of blackberries. I'm going to try my hand at jam. OK, off too clean b4 CIL gets here (except MBR, I'm still sanding in there so dusting and vacuuming will have to wait). Wish I had a dust-free climate-controlled workshop.

I am sorry Glenda, I did not mean anything. Did not realize this was the name of a restaurant. But then I am surprised that a couple places we went to eat in MI called these tacos. Guess that is what makes different areas fun to explore.Your sandwich still looks good!!!

When friends want their sandwich, we say let's go get a Roly Poly.

We love our Roly Poly here in Pensacola! I've had the nutty avacado and the cheesesteak one also. It's a great little shop. Great portions and prices tho I always order the half size because they are large sandwiches, for me anyway, lol!

We don't have Roly Poly restaurants here (that I'm aware of) but those wraps sure look good!

We don't have Roly Poly restaurants in PA, but we do call that kind of sandwich a wrap. They are yummy! I like that you can buy half.

I make wraps all the time. Never heard of Roly Polys. We always save one chicken breast when we grill out (no BBQ sauce) so that we can have wraps the next day. I make a chicken salad with celery, grape halves, mandarin oranges, scallion, sliced almonds, sweet yellow pepper strips, and Old Bay seasoned mayo. Escarole or Endive as the lettuce for crunch.

Then there's the sliced skirt steak.....

Just about every sandwich place and several regular restaurants will make their sandwiches into a wrap by request around here.

I never cared for them, only because I judge a good sandwich by its bread. For me the quality of the bread,roll or bun is what makes a a good sandwich,burger or even hot dog exceptional. I eat plenty of Mexican food too so I get my fill of tortillas which are similar to the wraps used for wraps.

I'm with Marie- we call these "wraps" as roly-polies are bugs! I occasionally buy white or green (spinach) wraps and make BLTs. Think I'llmake some for lunch.

Roly Poly is the name of the restaurant chain, and they are very popular in my area. All they sell are those and they are called rolled sandwiches by the restaurant, no matter what everyone else calls them. HERE! by Roly Poly!

I'd be roly poly if there was one near here. I love them, no matter what they are called. I sometimes just roll the wrap up tight, open up the jar of peanut butter and dip, dip, dip! A nice light snack if you're feeling a bit peckish ... lol.

I like that the rollups down your way are toasted. Up here in NY and MA I have never seen them toasted. I don't order them because the wraps always taste raw.

LOL at the roly-polies. Yep, they are bugs here too. Sow-bugs, often found in manure piles.

Maxmom you nailed it for me! Eating a cold wrap is like eating cardboard to me too. I like fresh bread as my sandwich.

I love tortillas hot as enchiladas, quesadilles or fajitas.

When my boys were little they liked playing with Roly Poly bugs and I would often find them in pants/coat pockets when doing laundry. Poor little abused bugs!

We don't have roly poly chains where I live in CA. We call them wraps and I've never cared for them because I love fresh bread with my sandwiches. I did have one toasted and it was ok.

I like wraps as they are easier to eat. I hate biting into a sandwich and having all the stuff fall out, but then again I eat my sandwiches with enough veggies so it's almost a salad.

I don't go to sandwich places very often because they don't usually change gloves or wipe knives between customers. I've seen way too many sandwich makers cut a turkey sandwich then cut my vegetarian one with the same knife and it grosses me out. Or they put bacon on a sandwich then touch my lettuce and there's still bacon residue on the gloves! Sometimes if it's not busy I'll ask them to wipe the knife first or change gloves but I don't like to be obnoxious about my choices it so I usually just avoid it. I do like them though.

The best sandwich I've ever had was at Potbelly's in Chicago. I wish they had them in CA!

You guys are pushing your luck. Don't you know you are never supposed to disagree or have an opinion that differs with Glenda's? If you keep it up she'll tell you all what she did on her post about getting her car fixed. No one else could get away with this kind of behavior.

We went to one of our favorite restaurants for snowlegs on Friday. It's "The Original Oyster House" on Mobile Bay. WOW! They must have a new cook since our last visit because I could barely get through two clusters before my mouth was on fire from all the spice this time. LOL

We usually get over there at least once a month or have them at Wintzell's downtown P'cola. :)

I'll add spice to the discussion.... LOL. The reason wraps taste like cardboard is because many (not all) of them are!!! Cellulose fiber (wood pulp) is added to a lot of low carb foods. Wraps are often touted as the low carb alternative in places which is why they became so popular with the new age carb fearing people.

Chi83, we just got a Potbelly in Seattle. It is SOOOO good! One of the best fast food sandwiches I've ever had. Good pickles too.

I also agree on the knife thing. I don't want meat contaminating my veggie sammies. It grosses me out.

Jenn, you should try the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies if you haven't already. :) I haven't gone there in years now so maybe they've changed, but I remember them being really good!

Chi83, I'll try it. I may go tomorrow for lunch since it's been awhile and now I'm craving one. I think I'm going to make a fake bacon BLT wrap for dinner tonight too! A faux roly-poly. :)

We don't have a Roly Poly restaurant here so I guess I will never get to find out if I like them or not. Wish I at least could.
Sure I could make it at home, but it is NEVER as good for me as the cook of the house, as it is when I take in that first bite in the restaurant of choice. I like to eat out first and then try to copy whatever I am enjoying.

Have a great deli here, that serves spinach roll ups with with braised white rosemary beans, which is wonderful.

I made a wonderful version of a roll up last week. I bought the Pepperage Farm Puff Pastry and rolled out each of the two pastries in the box so they were thinner. Then I layed different meats and cheeses on the narrower end (closer to me) and just rolled and rolled. I made one ham, turkey and swiss and one with Italian meats and cheese. Bake about30 monutes at 400 degrees and you have a wonderful homemade rolled sandwich with delicious puff pastry.
