How fun Alexa! I wish I was within driving distance,I'd love to be there.

Quiet here on NYD. I have a small brunch with some fruit, pastries, bagels and a french toast casserole planned. It's likely the yard/house will be full of ice skaters, so I'll probably be busy mopping much of the day.

No-one in our house watches football, so we are oblivious to the bowl games. I usually don't even know when the Superbowl is on.

I watch racing - Formula One, MotoGP, bicycle racing, and World Rally when it was still available here. Not much racing going on Jan 1st!

If it is sunny, the plan is to go for a bike ride and then have coffee and a pastry near our house. If it is rainy, the plan is to sleep in, then have coffee and a pastry near our house. If it is snowing, the plan is to marvel at the rare white stuff, then have coffee and a pastry near our house. So the choice is really just blueberry muffin or chocolate croissant.

After Jan 1 I plan to go paleo, so it'll be the last chance for a few things like hoppin' john and cornbread. May have some collards as well. (I was told black eyed peas for luck and greens for wealth)

Alexa's menu sounds yummy. My 10-years old already told me what she wants for New Year: Rare steak, pieroges, green beans, chocolate cake for dessert. It means a $20 soft-steak for her loose tooth (she has 6 adults teeth, the rest are baby). I'm thinking of a cheap and soft substitute like salisbury steak in gravy.

Black-eyed peas and ham, collard and kale greens, cornbread.

I wish you all were close enough to visit - I chose as many easy/do ahead things as possible and the menu would multiply easily!

Arley - you mentioned the exact reason for the Black Eyed Peas and Collards on my menu - luck and wealth!

Like Sharon, I am pretty "cooked out" too. Making crab legs and lobster tonight and then tomorrow we are going to just chill and be glad the holidays are behind us. If we eat much at all, it'll be at a restaurant!

Deen Bros Mini Macaroni Pies

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups crushed Ritz crackers (about 35 crackers)
2 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese (10 ounces)
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
4 1/2 cups cooked elbow macaroni (8 ounces uncooked), drained and kept hot
2 large eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350�F. Lightly grease 8 cups of a 12-cup muffin pan.
In a bowl, combine the crackers, 1 cup of the cheddar cheese, and the melted butter. Divide the mixture among the prepared muffin cups and press firmly in the bottom and up the sides of the cups.
In a large bowl, mix the macaroni with � cup of the cheddar cheese. In a small bowl, combine the eggs, milk, sour cream, cold butter pieces, and salt. Stir the milk mixture into the macaroni.
Spoon 2 tablespoons of the macaroni mixture into each cracker crust and top with the remaining cheddar cheese. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the cheese is browned and slightly crispy. Allow the pies to cool slightly before unmolding and serving warm.

We're doing pork and chicken tamales, and beef arracherra on the grill. I have skirt steak that will be marinating in bitter orange and adobo seasonings tomorrow. I might serve some black beans and some rice cooked with sofrito and seasonings. And a salad, so that we don't feel totally guilty.

At the moment, we're just getting ready to start the board games (Monopoly, Risk, and Scrabble for starters) and I'm working on my first Highland Fling. MMMMM.....

Just us two...bought a smoked pork shoulder on sale before Christmas. One of DH's favorites - his mother taught me how to cook it. There will be lots of leftovers to morph into other meals.

With it, green beans and a cauliflower cheese gratin. Also opening a jar of Bramble apple chutney I brought back from the UK last year.

Dinner will be Lamb Shanks. I also have some white beans (Cannellini beans) soaking and they will either end up as part of dinner or maybe as an appetizer.

We had Christmas dinner with Jimmy and Maartje, and so I have energy for New Year's Day. We went shopping at Ralphs today and found fresh okra, and so I decided to make seafood gumbo, which is one of my top five favorite dishes. It will include fresh frozen shrimp, Alaskan King Crab, and Maine lobster. I made some stock from the leftover Cornish game hen bones from Christmas dinner, but I may or may not use this stock, as I like for the seafood to dominate. I plan to start cooking early because I want to use as much of the seafood shells for stock as possible. I only add the seafood meat at the very last minute before serving, and I plan on freezing a few servings for later. We got the refrigerator cleaned out on Sunday, which was the first we had to go through and sort everything for the past month or so. I'm very happy with the new space that I recovered and pledge to keep it.

Last night was humungous - mini boudin blanc with aperitif, then oysters, followed by sabayon of langoustines and scollops, then salmon en croute with bundles of french beans wrapped in bacon, then molten lava cakes. Tonight is simpler with oysters, then quail stuffed with foie gras with truffle crushed potatoes. Sigh. Tomorrow will be slimming world haha

I've been sick so my cooking mojo has been way down. SO has been cooking mostly. But this morning New Year's brunch was vegan migas with tofu topped with avocado, sausages (vegetarian for me, healthy pork/rice for SO), black bean refritos and bannana coconut muffins. Cafe mocha to drink. Someone already opened the champagne eons ago I found out, it was no good. Tonight for dinner it is pork roast, baked acorn squash and coleslaw. I am also making more black beans and might make a loaf of bread in my new bread pan. I'd also like to get some soup done but we'll see. I'm still worn out from fighting a cough.
So its cooking day for me. Just one day off. :( Actually I'll be working 11 days in a row so will have to stock up on food to heat quick.

We are fooded out with rich holiday eating. This morning's breakfast was whole oats. Later DH will make pizza. In between we'll snack on leftovers.

Started the morning by taking Chase's recommendation. Poached egg on dry wheat toast. Sliding into the tasty stuff slowly - Texas Caviar!

Caliloo, 'Texas Caviar' was something I tried for a winter solstice get-together and it was a HUGE hit!!! I bought both regular and baked tortilla chips, but I could only get the scoop shapes in baked form and they turned out to be perfect for scooping up this stuff. Yours looks great. Now I'll be craving it again. lol!
