lookin' for suggestions..sticky candy wrapping

I will be making an Italian candy called "Torrone" which I'd like to include in my cookie & candy x-mas gift baskets.

I would like to wrap individual pieces of the torrone, but the problem is the cut side is very sticky. Can anyone suggest a wrapping for this type of candy? I would also like the wrapping to look as nice as possible too.

Lucy the no stick tin foil is amazing, nothing sticks to it! Could you wrap the pieces in that and then, if the look isn't right, perhaps wrap again in one of those cello wrappings, or some such thing?

Lucy- how about putting them in little paper candy cups? They look like little cupcake papers. I know that places like Michaels & AC Moore have lots of festive patterns & it would keep them sfrom sticking to anything else in the basket.

My belated thanks to you all for your compliments, and for the laughs--maybe I should start calling Donna S "Mad Max" or "Wonder Woman" LOLOL Nothing cracks me up more than recalling memories of our collective 70s-80s past :) K, do you suppose my cousin would KILL me for recollecting on here how he used to stick a towel in the back of his shirt, and then spin himself around like WW? OK, Jen, speaking of dating one's self: I am so freaking clueless when it comes to computer issues--I have absolutely no idea how to make my photos larger! I'm all ears :) To your question, Jen, Donna S was sluggish to come out of dormancy this past spring--by the time she did, two of her three tips had sealed over. Those two both eventually branched profusely (4 each, I believe), and on one of those two, the biggest new branch popped an inflo. The second inflo is on the tip that did not seal over. Clearly, this tree wants to put out flowers...and I ain't complainin'! K, you next: beer and snails?...discuss... :) Mona, how totally cool that you work at a plant farm!!! I'm jealous. BTW I'm 40 exactly, so my family relation with you would I suppose depend on how young you would have become a mom LOL that's YOUR call, not mine haha :) but son, brother, good either way! :) So sorry to hear about your Charlotte E, but how nice to hear of the generosity of Tally in sending you a replacement! Next season will be the year where the majority of my collection will turn 3 (so, so many bought in the frenzy of 2010--yeowza!) and I hope and pray that I will be able to report next year at this time that year 3 is when our trees "stop the madness" and become adults, thereafter growing slowly and modestly. If it turns out that they continue to grow as fast as they have so far, I'm gonna have a big problem on my hands! Holy hugeness! Oh Goody! I'm so glad the packages are getting there and all of you are able to join in on my fun. We had a lot of wonderful participants for this swap and some interesting seeds coming through. It was truly all of you that made this swap a success. I hope the rest of players get their packages quickly so they too, can enjoy the spirit of halloween and the sharing of our beautiful gardens. I'll definately be back next year IF all of you promise to be back too! Thanks everyone for your great comments. This was a fun table to do. I agree that the dishes would look good in a fun summer setting too. [Will it ever come?] My DGD and her boyfriend were at the thrift shop when I was there and he pointed the crawfish out to me, it was only 50 cents so I couldn't turn it down. I don't remember where the bud vase I used in the CP came from, someone's initials are on the bottom so I think it is ceramic. It reminds me of twigs or branches from a tree bound together. It is a very unusual piece, and has been gold as long as I've had it. NanaK

Thank you all so much, you definitely make my decorating worth the 'work'. Candy, I think all of us with Fibro have learned we just have to keep going as Creek says. Quite a few of us here suffer from this, and I certainly don't feel I do near as much as the others. They amaze me with all they get done. Jeanne, you definitely would LOVE that polar bear cub in real life. He's made where he looks like carved wood, I'm not real sure that he isn't. My DD found him a couple of years ago at a sale after Christmas and knew I'd love him. Polar Bears are a favorite of mine, such neat animals! Full of humor and playfulness. Candy, since you play golf in N.Az occasionally, I'll tell my DD when she has to get rid of my Christmas stuff, you'll come pick it up and make sure its in good homes. Maybe Jane will bring the bus and help you do this. My DD would take all my Nutcrackers to GW in a heartbeat (she really doesn't like them at all. LOL. And if she inherits mine and her MIL's, she's going to need to buy two more houses to put everything in. Her hubby is already really worried about the possibilty of this. LOL) hugs, Karen

I haven't used that type of foil yet, sounds like it could work, if it truly doesn't stick to anything. I also like your idea of using the cello wrapping in conjunction w/the foil, then I could tie a holiday ribbon for an added touch. It's certainly worth a try.

I like your idea as well, it would look so nice & petty, and that's what I want; but those candy edges are so very sticky. My concern is the candy would stick something terrible to the paper itself; making it difficult to remove. I had the hardest time w/plastic wrap, what a mess that was OMG!

What about dusting the cut side with powdered sugar? Would that work?

Lucy this really is an amazing product. Nothing sticks to it!

Here are some reviews on it. Towards the bottom is one from Fearlessemily (do ya think that could be our fearlessem???) she raves about it when making homemade marshmallow....no that's sticky!

That's a great idea, I could use it that way for the trays I'll have at home which don't need to be wrapped & put them out in those cute little paper cups (thanks, Nina).

After reading those reviews about this foil, I believe w/your help I've found the answer by golly!.

I made the Torrone a little while back w/great views, and I've been wanting to include it in my baskets this year. However, I just could not think what would work as a wrapping for this sinful candy. What a relief....

I think the wrapping the torrone in foil is a great idea. You could fold the ends like a package and seal with some nice stickers too. It would look very professional!!

Lucy, since you brough up torrone, I can't seem to find the wafer papers. Someone suggested an asian store but are the asian wafers what I need?

Thank you, what a great idea, stickers !

I believe the asian wafers are "rice papers" which would work just fine. If given a choice, as I'm not sure how they sell it, wondering it they have in different thicknesses, if that be the case; then go for a thin sheet. My daughter had picked up the wafer paper for me at a candy supply store.

Glassine paper (or envelopes) is what is used for wrapping fancy candies, at least that's what Martha has been showing for years in her mags.

Ooops, if nothing sticks to the Reynold Release Wrap, the stickers could be a problem....duh!!!

If there are any problems with the sticker just get some of that inexpensive, thin ribbon that comes in a roll and tie it around the package, twist and go in the opposite direction and tie in a nice bow. It will look like a very high-end candy, which it is!!

Reynold Release Wrap has a non stick side and a regular side. You place the non stick side against the food. Regular side facing out...so no problems with stickers, well at least not anymore than with regular foil.

Bubblebzee, I'll keep an eye out for the glassine paper, the torrone would look so lovely in that.

LOU!!! HOPE YOU COME BY, NEED YOUR INPUT. Regarding that chunk of Torrone I sent you, how long did it last & did it taste fresh to the last bite?? Trying to figure out when I should make it, based on how long it still tasted fresh. All my taste testers all had a taste within days of making, so I don't have a clue how long I can expect it to taste well.

not to taste fresh.
But if you send another piece, I'll be glad to test it for you.
Here I go again ! I'll sacrifice myself once more to help you.

Hi all --

I had to laugh when reading this thread, as yep, Chase, that was me... And literally, I just sat down to the computer after making another batch of marshmallows (coffee marshmallows this time -- they are unbelievably good! Will be dipped in chocolate...). Lucy -- yep, I think the nonstick foil would do the job, and since the regular side would be out, a nice sticker on the top would look great. Let us know how it works!

I's love your coffe marshmellow recipe. I made toasted coconut ones last year for my friend's chocolate fountain and they were delicious. Coffee sounds even better.

LOU, HONEY!! LOL! I was hoping you'd tell me it lasted at least 2 weeks. That was a pretty large chunk I sent ya!

I guess I'll make around Dec. 16th - 17th, to give out in the gift baskets between the 19th & 22nd.

Maryanne, you are too sweet! But I can use the wafer papers at our local Korean Market which is not too far from my house.

Lucy, but isn't that box cute!!! Here's another one that I like. It's called the Compass Rose Box.

If you are giving more then one piece of candy you might need a heavier box. Bristol Board, which is a bit heavier then paper but not as heavy as poster board, works out beautifully for boxes. My first year of art school we had several assignments for making boxes in our 3D Design class. For making a nice, clean edge, all you do is score with a utility knife...very easy.
