Please say healing prayer for my Oreo

Hello,
I'm a bit desperate as I'm waiting for my husband to come home and I'm waiting for my vet to open at 5 pm.

My darling black and white cat Oreo is only 17 months old. He's been passing bright blood in his stool and when we took him in to see the vet a week ago, the vet didn't find any parasites or worms in his stool sample and just suggested monitoring and changing of food. We've changed his food but I'm so alarmed, Oreo is usually so energetic and playful but today he is so listless he can't even keep his head up. I work out of my home office and I know that something is horribly wrong with him. He has a sister, from the same litter, who is totally fine.

Please, please, I'm just waiting and praying right now and I'm asking if you could send healing thoughts his way.

Thank you everyone for all the prayers, good thoughts and kind words. The hearing went well but the ALJ (administrative law judge) did not give me his final decision, I'll have to wait for that, 6 weeks to 6 months. After nearly three years of waiting, what's another six months eh? Pfft..yeah right! LOL!! My son and his girlfriend are doing better. GF is going back to work on Monday and is feeling so much better. My son is up and using crutches some, I have heard. I've not been able to speak to him because his cell phone is shut off at the moment. Why do kids procrastinate such things?? His employer told him to heal well and not to come back to work until he is 100 %. He saw the film of the accident on the news so he knew it was bad already when DS called in. Anyway, I saw his father yesterday and he did not know if appointments for the specialist have been made or not. He was going to stop by and check in on them but I have not heard anything yet. I'll let you know when I know anything. Day two and still no lower back pain!! It's a miracle, I am just in awe over it. I always thought acupuncture was probably all in the mind but I was very wrong. I don't know how it works but I love what it has done for me in just two treatments!! I know it will be short lived but I am going to enjoy every second of it while I have it. My yard is calling to me but I am resisting so far. Actually I feel completely exhausted and I'm wondering if it is a reaction of my body because it has suddenly been relieved of the burden it has been under for so long. All day I just wanted to go in and lay down. Tomorrow, I think I'll give in to that feeling, if it is there again. Thanks for all the support. Hi all, Ernie is finally better! PK, no offense taken at all, that was funny! I wanted to wait before posting to be sure he really was finally on the mend. I had the vet give me some appetite enhancer pills, and boy did they work! I only had to give him one and then one half and he was back to eating. Now he's spoiled rotten with my mother giving him tuna all the time. He gazes up at her in the kitchen and squeeks his little meow and she is supposed to give him tuna. I told her only one time a week, he doesn't ***NEED*** tuna. heh heh Upon getting well from the first thing, he promptly got a sneeze, but that doesn't bother me and he's about over it. I also got sick and have gone through two bottles of cough syrup. Thank you so much for all your prayers and comments and good thoughts, I really really appreciate it! Julie

Thank you for the kind words and prayers for our contractor. He came to our house last night to tell us what happened, how his doctor feels he's doing, and his plans to have our remodel completed. It was great to see him, but so dreadful hearing the harrowing details. Basically, he was making our cabinets and the the piece of wood kicked back and in an instant he lost portions of 3 fingers of his right (dominant) hand. Just horrible. He is a meticulous, super careful guy. He said he's healing well, but is really unhappy to see what remains of his hand. His told us "I've been doing this for 30 years and have only cut myself once...well, I can't do anything about it now, I just have to move forward". He has to wait another 10 days before he'll be reevaluated (which is driving him crazy). He's already lined up another cabinet maker to finish creating the cabinet boxes on Monday and has a team set up to stain them. Tom is not the kind of guy to sit still for very long. I pray that with physical therapy and some modifications he'll be able to continue his business. He's one of those guys who is always busy and does such a great job that he's usually booked out a year in advance. My husband and I told him to take as long as he needs to heal-he is more important than our kitchen. We can make do with our "indoor camping" for a long time. The house is tight and warm, we have a fridge, stove and temporary sink, a card table and chairs, and a beautiful sawhorse/closet door island. He brought with him the front to one of the cabinets so we could see how they will look-beautiful! When all is done, I'll post pics. I've lurked here for over a year and have learned so much. Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

Thank you so much for your positive thoughts.
Oreo's energy returned last night and this morning he's running through the house with his sister as is typical! I am changing his wet food and he will be back at the vet on Wed for a fuller exam.

This is frightening;
although he feels better today, bright blood in the stool & lethargy/listlessness mean that something is very wrong.

Dark blood would mean something wrong in the stomach, but
bright blood means that there's bleeding in the intestines.

I would definitely ask the vet what kind of food would make the intestines bleed;
it seems much likelier that there's a parasite in there.

maybe tapeworms?
I'm pretty hazy on tests for parasites (being really up on worms just doesn't appeal!) , but tapes might not show up on a microscopic exam because they're big;
they show up in the stool when they shed segments.

Please question your vet & find out what he checked & what else he can check.

Healing thoughts and prayers for your Oreo. How is he now? Does your vet already know what is wrong with him? I hope he is doing well now and everything is fine. Please keep us updated about Oreo's health. Keep strong Mira. I know that Oreo will be going fine soon.

Healing prayers for Oreo! It sounds possible that he could have swallowed something that injured his intestine, to be sure I would ask the vet to do some x-rays or ultrasound.

If it's not a foreign body, it could be IBD - the good news is that most cases can be resolved with proper diet. Read more about diet and IBD at the links below:

At 17 months old, IBD is unlikely, but not unheard of . Fresh blood in cat stool is not that rare, nor is it necessarily a big problem. Many things can cause a bit of fresh blood in the stool of a cat, with the most likely being the kitty ate something that was not his normal food... plant material (eg. grass is a common cause), excess hair accumulation can do this (in allergic cats or ones with a lot of fleas for example), or a diet change. Dry food is often implicated in situations with bloody stools in cats... high protein, low carb diets are always best for cats (impossible with dry food). Glad he seems better. If he has blood in his stool once a month or less, I would not be too concerned, particularly if he likes to eat grass or you keep changing his diet. If he has fleas, get rid of those, or excess hair ingestion can be a problem... also, I might recheck his fecal sample at least one more time... sometimes you need to do a few tests before certain parasites show up. Tapeworms never show up in fecals but you can often see them in the stools. However, tapeworms rarely if ever cause bloody stools.
