Comments (16)the sink is a kohler under mount iron/tones K2826 in sea salt. it has a slight sparkle to it. I am very happy with it. the floor is bamboo. the contractor has told me that three people have asked him for it since I had it installed. (but no one has asked for my counter tops! i think this is one of those choices that someday when we sell the house, people will say, was she crazy to choose blue? but i love it, so it's okay.) here is a picture of the floor in the hall. we replaced carpeting in the hall, MBR, closets, and the tile in the bathroom with this flooring....See Morebathroom sink cold water stinks :o(
Comments (5)I hit the reply button when the e-mail came and sent you this, but I'm not sure you would get it. First sorry for the caps I get aggravated over this remodel project see mold/stink problem also by me ! ;o) No I'm not in local politics there are none, anyway we just got the name because we live right in the center of town and the oldest citizen came up with it. This is really not a town or anything like that just a crossroads. It is an old brick store building in the middle of nowhere like you see on classic main streets so the remodeling with the solid brick has been a trip. By the way tell me what you think about my mold/stink problem if you've got a minute. I'm not too good at these things, but the aerator appears to be up inside it not just like the old screw off ones (Moen Asceri bathroom faucet) One thing the plumber changed the faucet out for a couple of weeks when he changed the supply pipes etc. There was no stink, but I don't think my mother let it go long enough because after he changed the stems etc. the stink eventually came back when the old one was replaced. I don't think it is the drain, but we will look at that further. Her immediate conclusion lead him to the faucet is the problem. However that thing was expensive. I've got chrome Asceri stuff all over the house this is a widespread one. There is a 4 inch same kind chrome upstairs with no problem. We run the water in the cold water tap for awhile and the stink does go away, but we are embarrassed when company comes to wash their hands. Is there an under this cabinet only filter deal that could be installed and do you recommend it ? The whole house filter is changed regularly so that's not it. I would say it just plain stinks I can't give you a definitive answer on the smell. I think the plumber well mainly his helper that got fired may know what the deal is and it would be a damn ordeal to fix it. I mentioned jackhammers. This same guy that was fired installed the dishwasher. I'm looking at a solution without that. He is adamant on replacing the faucet, but I'm curious about a filter instead ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "pjb999" To: "donnalinglendonnc" Sent: Wednesday, January 03, 2007 3:32 AM Subject: bathroom sink cold water stinks :o( > [This is a follow-up to your posting on > That Home Site!'s Plumbing Forum, located at: > http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/plumbing/ ] > _______________________________ > > (PLEASE NOTE: The member responding to your post has chosen not to reveal his or her email address. The only way it can be the faucet - and it doesn't matter if you have identical elsewhere in the house - is that something's trapped in it, or there's a chemical reaction to the metals in it. Don't forget the drain's right under the tap, and may smell ok til it gets stirred up, by water running. Try filling a bucket from a non-stinky tap, and pouring it down that drain - does the smell appear? > > What kind of stink, by the way? It'd be a big help to know - does it smell like sewage? The fact you're on well water's also very important, best not to mention it as an afterthought (when you mention the filter) - btw, what state is the filter in, has it been changed? Perhaps it should. > > It's also possible you have backflow, and you're drawing contaminated water back into the system.....the layout should be checked for places where water could flow back into the system, say from a hose dangling in a sink that can suck water back up. > > I'd also have the water tested, and in the meantime, boil the drinking/toothbrushing water. > > > Have you flushed the system out really well, run the stinky tap for ten minutes say, to make sure it's cleaned out? Gunk gets in when you do plumbing work - but make sure the aerator's off the spout before you do. > > It IS possible the plumber messed something up, or somebody's deliberately done something - like put something in the pipe - by your email handle, are you in local politics? Don't jump to any conclusions, though. > > I'd first consider the likely, then the less likely then on to the unlikely, as possible causes. > > Lastly, just a suggestion - avoid the use of capitals in such large blocks, it's hard on the eyes and hard to read, it's also considered SHOUTING in the online community. :) > > Hope this helps. > > pjb999 > _______________________________ > >...See MoreHot water stops flowing in two sinks
Comments (8)If your faucet is cheap or old, get a new faucet. It sounds like the pressure balance is failing. You have a single handle control, right? Get one with separate hot/cold faucets. If there are pressure fluctuations in your hot/cold plumbing, the separate faucet controls will help, if you choose to get a cheap replacement faucet. If you want a single handle control, make sure it has a pressure balance mixing valve. It will cost more $ for a quality one. The reason I think your hot water is "cutting out" is that cold water is forcing its way back through the faucet and up into the hot water pipes. This can happen if your hot water has lower pressure than cold and the single handle faucet has a faulty pressure balance....See MoreBathroom sinks have water coming up from drain in a highrise
Comments (18)A slow drain is first cousin to your next stopped up and overflow. It’s a partial clog and drain cleaner is useless. Drain chemicals are actually VERY DANGEROUS YO YOU. It will burn you. It will dissolve the heck out of marble tile Heck, it can eat the gloss right off of ceramic tile. It can eat holes in galvanized plumbing and make a bad situation much worse. It’s not really safe to use and should be taken off the market. That drain needs to be augured. You obviously aren’t up to the task. Pay a Pro. Or have the super do the job he gets paid to do. And you better darn well be sure that your insurance covers flooding from negligence. Because it probably won’t. And your neighbor is gonna have a 59K judgement against you for ruining his apartment. If you rent instead of own, you will be asked to leave. If you own, the super is going g to have the right to enter your apartment at will to inspect, because you were negligent in reporting issues that caused building damage. What kind of “home professional” are you? Dare we ask? CPA? Accountant? Masseuse? All three? It certainly doesn’t involve anything design or construction related, that’s for sure....See Moretim45z10
