Make Your Own Cake Pans

Need a Shamrock cake pan for the holidays or some other other shape how about a baseball bat!!

It's easy to make your own cake pan All you need is a sheet of 3-ply white Bristol board, a ruler, scissors, stapler and some heavy-duty or freezer-wrap 'aluminum foil

Start by drawing the shape you want on paper, in the size cake you want then Mark lines off on strips of white Bristol board (20 by 23/4 inches) for the folds. Score with scissors, then bend .to shape and staple strips together you could use poster board and maybe double it,

In handling the foil be sure to allow even tiny holes or tears. Test by holding to light

When you start to pour batter

To make it simple cut the 2 and 3/4 strips and then mold them around the drawing on your paper until you get the shape you want stapling strips together. When you get the shape and size you want then cut 6 wide strips of the foil and cover the strips folding over on the outside of the strips .smooth surface as you go. When you get it to look like you want then place on a large sheet of foil and turn up on the edges so that only about 3/4 is turned over to the inside

Before greasing and pouring in the batter place on a cookie sheet fill form about 1/3 full then bake as usual. You might have to experiment with how much to fill it. Let cool before loosening sides from cake .Cool on cake rack about 20 minutes Gently pull sides away from cake to remove cake from form invert and carefully cut and peel the foil off the bottom of cake then lift the form off

This idea came from an old September 1954 clipping from a magazine
