Crown Moulding & Baseboards Different Shades?

I have walnut wood trim throughout my home. I have a large living room that has 3 inch wood baseboards and wood windowsills. I would like to install crown moulding on the ceiling and around the large open doorway between my living and dining rooms but I think that white moulding would be more flattering against my Silver Sage paint.

My question is, should I paint the baseboards and window trim white or leave it alone, and have white trim on the ceiling and dark wood on the baseboard?

I don't really want to have the moulding be wood because the adjoing dining room has the wood trim and chair-rail and it's a bit much. Thanks!

I don't see anything wrong with having crown painted when the rest of the trim is stained. We'll be doing that in our Sunroom, when we get to it, that is.

I would prefer everything to be white, but that is just me. You can always live with it for a week and see if you like having the mix. If not, paint it all!

Oh, that's always a tough one. I tend to go with more traditional choices and would suggest match the crown. Painting trim/molding the same color as the walls comes with caveats. Biggest one is every time you want to change wall color, you also have to paint the trim. Well, I suppose you wouldn't have to but then that's a different approach altogether. I painted the walls in Wool Skein and the trim in Universal Khaki in the dining room, kitchen, back hall, and mudroom of a showhouse project. The overall look was still bright and light. I feel you do need more substantial mouldings to pull it off. The first pic is overexposed, the second is much closer to IRL.

Donald, the new window and door trim will be just shy of 3 1/4 inches which is all there is room for on some walls where the doors are too close to a corner or cabinet. I read the door and window trim should be narrower than the baseboards are high; is half too great a difference? jewelisfabulous, I have done that. 5 inch seems ok but a little short, 6 inch seems perfect but there are relatively few of those, and 7 seems a little tall but maybe just because of the contrast to what we currently have. A 7 inch is my favorite profile. Thank you both for your input and I welcome any more.
