Is it ok to put a seam at the sink? Can u recomend a sink?
Comments (6)Here's why a seam at the sink is not a good idea-what if you get granite Cut #1 or #2 in boxerpup's posting on the link below(drawings at the bottom of her post under the photos) What are you going to do if the stuff they use to fill the seam starts to break down or isn't applied properly? That's what happened to my sister's granite which is seamed smack dab in the middle of her sink--let's not even talk about how during this economic crisis her granite fabricator filed for bankruptcy, reopened under a different name, won't honor the warranty & how no other granite fabricator will even touch it to make the repair! You wouldn't believe how much buildup she gets in that crack--can you just imagine the potential for bacteria growth?!? Why take the chance of putting a seam in a high traffic/food/water area if you don't have to? Plus not all seams are as well done as cloud_swift's is in the above pic. Just my $0.02. Comments (37)The hot tamale train!!???!! That rocks Mrsandrews!!!!! Thank you. Which granite did you end up with?? I know, I know. I need to calm myself down before I freak out again. I mean, soon the appliances are going in, then window treatments. I can't post another "oh no, this is too XXX" everytime I frickin put something new in my kitchen!!! Thanks neesie! I didn't realize I was being too sensitive. To me, from a technical perspective, it just doesn't match up. I've seen some kick a$$ seams on GW where they match perfectly, and we had two big slabs for them to choose from, so I was just expecting that they could do a better job. But maybe my expectations are too high. And no, my mother-in-law has told me before, for goodness sakes, don't point out the flaws!! Thanks Patricia!!...See Moregranite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens....See Moregranite seams and directionality of granite
Comments (29)Either my pictures aren't very good or the wisdom of the crowd isn't what I thought. The company agreed with me they are cutting a slab for the back wall that will run vertically like the other two slabs and placing it over the slab already installed on the wall. They are then cutting a one inch strip of marble and finishing it to cover the seam. They were very gracious and admitted the back wall was a mistake on their part....See Morelaxsupermom
