Looking for chandelier for dining room

the room is 12x13 freshly painted in SW Escape Grey. Woodwork is cherry stained clear pine. 8' ceilings. Furniture staying includes 48 x 72" oak pedestal table, chairs, and curved glass oak Larkin china cabinet. mahogany colored Duncan Phyfe furniture is leaving (china with plant on top, long buffet and server in the back).

The light that is there was a temporary fix but doesn't cast enough light. (3 60 watt bulbs)

I've been told to look for a 24" wide fixture, but I *really, really* prefer down lights v. uplights. My taste is very contemporary/asian inspired. I don't like fussy. I am having a hard time finding fixtures that are not too tall or that don't have amber shades.

Questions:

would amber shades be wrong in this room?

what metal finish? I like brushed nickel, but it seems too modern with the furniture

any ideas for me?

I'd appreciate any ideas anyone might have--my local lighting store is closing and I'm going buggy looking on the internet.

How about this one?

I do like the larger version of the first one that you show above --- it is a really lovely chandelier! And I do think the larger one would work in your room -- once you settle everything in its place .....

thnaks teacats--I hadn't seen that one before--it seem like it might be too wide at 31"?? I am a complete lighting novice--

I do love the 6 light Raiju (1st light above) is 28" wide, but 31" tall!! I think that might be way too much for my 8' ceilings?

I do like the linked 4 downlight with Limoges shades (I prefer teh wave pattern and I liek the drum shades) but at 21" wide I'm not sure it is large enough

Was your living room done by a decorator? It's beautiful but seems so impersonal. I would suggest a large carpet for your dining room in warmer colors than the living room, since the wall color is warmer. I would look for original art, not just some prints that look good, but rather something that touches your heart. Since the dining set is traditional you could also look for a mirror with an ornate frame. I wouldn't pick just traditional art, though, because the living room has a more transitional vibe. You can mix in drawings and watercolors, and more contemporary art.

You could get a oblong table measure the length you can go are you planning to change the drapes? Cuz they're missing and if you are go like 4 in from the ceiling and if not you could get solar shades that have little pin holes and get the color that's going to match the wall if you want the space there to look larger or a light color Shades can be used along with the drapes like you did

Actually I do think that size (31 inches) would be a great size for the width of your space.

BUT take another look at that same link -- and check out the pendant-style chandelier that is listed as "part of the same style" -- perhaps that one?

I do like a larger chandelier -- but always remember to add a dimmer switch!! LOL! Just teasing! :)

wow--I guess I forgot to preview after correcting my typos in that last post! sorry.

I'm not sure I like the look of a single pendant in this room. we have a very modern halogen over our 42" kitchen table and when we put in the leaf--the ends of the table are really cast into darkness.

I think I might get creative tomorrow and mock up some of these fixtures with cardboard and string--to see the scale in my room. I did finally get the furniture back against the walls so we can have seating for Easter. The poly on the trim will have to wait (again!)
