Removing drain pipe from cast iron drain stack

Hi folks,

I am running a new waste line from my kitchen to the main drain stack. It is part of a kitchen remodel. There is a short length of pipe attached to the main whose threads on the open end had broken off. I had originally attached the pvc pipe to this with a rubber coupling but found out this will not pass code in my town. Please see this link:

I need to remove the short length of pipe so I can thread in a pvc fitting. It is, at this point, quite immobile. I am afraid of cracking the main. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark
