I say go for it! I don't think you'd have to paint anything else black unless you wanted to. Beautiful home, btw. I am planning on painting the interior of my front door and the interior of the garage access door black. I do have black furniture pieces through out my home as well. I think it would look nice!

Btw, are your floors real oak?? They are beautiful. I also love your paint color!!

Why are you thinking of painting the door? I like it the way it is...I don't think it will flow with the house if you paint it black. I would, tho, hang a couple of small, colorful, complimentary artwork frames (if possible, two hung one above the other, on each side). The pictures will naturally draw your eyes away from the door, and add more color on that side of your room.

Thanks citymomof3! I'm also thinking of painting the piece in the photo black - we got it at an antique store and it's looking pretty worn out. Yes, the floors are oak - we just got them put in in December. I'm really happy about the paint color too (also new in December) - it's BM Harvest Time.

I wouldn't paint it black. I just think it might be too big of a contrast to the white french door.

Why don't you like it white? The rest of the doors with panels are white.

If you do paint it black, I do like the idea of painting the cabinet black, but I also like the cabinet black, a few black framed prints in the foyer - but leave the door white.

I too, love your wall color. It's just the right shade of soft wheat gold. I admit, I cannot picture the interior of your entry door in black. It just seems like it would be too much in there. I CAN see the antique piece done in distressed black, I think it would look really good.

First of all, I LOVE that chest in your entry way!

With the door, I don't hate the idea of black at all. Then again I am all about the contrast. I assume you will keep the trim white? Maybe someone can photoshop it for you.

I do think the door looks a little blah in white. Have you considered the wall color (still keeping the trim white) or a few shades darker of that color? Or a red-ish brown?

I think Kitchenkelly hit it right on the head, painting it a shade or two darker than wall color will blend it very nicely with the wall. Because of the french doors I'm thinkin that's what you want to do..subdue the front door.

I like your door very much the way it is. I see you have brass hardware on your other hallway doors. I'm wondering what you think about replacing the hardware with a shiny brass or polished brass...maybe splurge on something wonderful and special that goes with your style. I think it would give you the updating you want?

I am thinking that it will make the entry, which isn't very large but now feels light and airy, feel smaller with that big hit of black there. Also, with the french doors right there, I think it might feel odd.

But, if you want to try it, you could tape some pieces of black construction paper up on the door, leaving the glass area uncovered, and see what you think. I would take some pix of that to get another perspective, too.

This board is great! I've been on the kitchen board for a while now, and this is my first foray over here - thank you all so much for your suggestions! I think I do want to subdue the front door - that was a good way of putting it. And the door with the shiny brass knob is being replaced with a glass paned door with an ORB handle, which the other french doors have (not fully installed in the picture!) The trim will stay white. I like the idea of doing the door a shade or two darker than the wall. LOVE the idea of artwork with black frames, and painting the chest distressed black.

Those doors look good in the photo, BUT -- I would still hesitate to paint yours black.

You have light coming through the window in the door... and that light, against a black door, would create a very harsh, very sharp contrast.

Also, the photo looks well-considered, because both doors are black, the stair risers are black, AND the iron balusters on the stairs are black.

How much black are you willing to live with?

I'm heading over to kitchens to see if I can find a better picture of your kitchen. From what I can see, it looks amazing.
