The micro drawer has a keep warm setting. If you had to chose one, I would get the micro. I do use the warming drawer, but not as much as the micro and not as much as I thought I would. It didn't turn out to to be the best way to have a meal for a late kiddo and I never got into the habit of warming plates for dinner -- in part because my warming drawer takes longer to heat up. I can heat my oven to warm faster.

The micro drawer is easy to use and the sensor reheat and keep warm settings have been nice short cuts for us.

I would go with the micro drawer too. Not only do I think it's so much easier to use being at a lower height, but my kids love it too (heat up their own popcorn, reheat pizza, etc.) My oven has a "keep warm" setting on it and that's where I keep something warm, and very rarely do I use it, only if the timings on my meal were off. And also the micro drawer does have a warm setting, while I hear it is not as good as an actual warming drawer for the number of times we would use it it works for us.

Which microwave drawer did you choose? Have you been happy with it? I read a lot of mixed reviews of the Sharp Micro

I am also considering a microwave drawer. My DH is tall and thinks he will find the low microwave, even as a drawer, annoying. Anyone have any perspective on this?

My dh is 6'4" and has no problems with our MW drawer. It is installed on our island. We have the Sharp...I didn't know anyone else made one? We love it...no problems or downside whatsoever.

We recently purchased new kitchen equipment and were told by a technical/regional representative for Wolf that the guts of all microwaves sold in the U.S. are manufactured by Sharp.

If I had to choose one I'd say the MW, although we use both our drawer MW and our warming drawer frequently, for different purposes. (Mostly keeping things warm in the warming drawer, like pizza, pancakes, side dishes and appetizers when we have people over; although I also use it for heating up rolls and plates.)

docmamma: we're a tall family (at 5'11" I'm now the shortest!) and we all really like the drawer MW. Since you use it from above, you don't have to bend over like you would if a regular MW was installed below the counter. And we love how it keeps the counter clear.

San Juan Girl: we have had the Sharp for 3 1/2 years now and it has been great. No issues. Although I'll admit I use very few of the special functions -- really just the popcorn function and regular timed heating. But I was like that with my old MW too.

I have the Sharp 30" installed in the island. Only been in use for a few weeks but totally love it. Just be aware that the 30" does not have the auto close on it. I didn't know that until too late. Oh well. I only picked that over the 24" because they were putting it in over a 30" drawer and would be an easy fit. I believe the 24" and 30" have the same inner box. As far as features, I don't know what the difference between the 2 would be. I don't do any "specialty cooking" in mine..mostly heat-ups and popcorn.

If you are saying that you can leave the microwave where it is and add a warming drawer when you didn't have one before, then I would add the warming drawer.

But I use my microwave very little. Melting butter and microwave popcorn and those types of things. I may put a 100. Dollar microwave in my pantry and call it a day.

A warming drawer is a nice appliance to have.

I have the Sharp 24" MW drawer (KB-6524PS), and I have a KA WD under my ovens just across the aisle. (The slab drawer front with the hole is the WD. Slab will be replaced with a Shaker front soon.)

I use the WD multiple times a week and love having it. Even DH, who sceptically asked if we needed one when I announced the purchase, says it was a great idea. I warm plates, proof yeast bread/rolls, keep DH's dinner warm as he never makes it home before 7:30, keep part of a meal warm when I've accidently or purposely completed a dish before the whole meal is done, kept rolls warm, kept pancakes and the like warm. My WD heats up faster than my oven and is more quiet!

If I HAD to choose, I'd go with the MW. I'm semi-tall, but don't find the drawer height an issue. (I had been very concerned about that when laying out my kitchen.) I use it daily to warm leftovers, melt or soften butter, etc. I don't cook in it, but find it invaluable for daily kitchen life. I need to start using some of those fancy features!

Red Lover: After seeing the post on Houzz where the MW drawer was over the WD, I'm thinking I maybe have room for both! Perhaps not money enough for both! lol Just don't know what I'd put where the built in MW was? Lots more $$ now!
Breezygirl: Thanks for posting the picture of your beautiful kitchen. I can see a use for both since my son comes in at a different time every night from sports stuff and either me or my DH must chauffeur. Just wish the WD would do the cooking, not just the warming!
I'll have to see how much these items add to the already stretched budget. Seems like I should "go for it" since I may not get another chance to redo this kitchen.

The KB-6525P series is a 30" with the auto close feature. We got the KB6524PS because the 24" has the same interior size as the 30" but if a 30 works better in your layout(to match a warming drawer size,) you can still get the auto close feature. It's just the older model that doesn't have the auto close.
