Your room is just gorgeous. I LOVE the rug...the colors and the size look perfect.
Instead of putting the couches on an angle, what would it look like if you left the one with it's back to the camera, placed the round table next to it, and then straightened out the other sofa to create an L shape? The fabric for the drapes is just stunning! As far as the mirror, something seems off. I don't know if it would be better to put a nice framed print up there. Brown frame, colorful picture. Only my single opinion!!

Thank you declansmom for your kind comments on the room! I had the sofa and chair in an L-shape but when I did that their backs are to the entry and it just isn't very welcoming. Plus, I was hoping that if I could make it work on the angle then I could put a table behind the sofa. It is a very hard room to work on an angle, though, since it is so long.

What do you think about painting the mirror and mantel black and then having some sort of bright design painted onto the black of the mirror using the other colors from the room? I have an artist friend who would probably be able to do this for me. Just a thought - the mirror is from our last house so I would love to re-use it.

IMO, I think that would be too much black on one wall because of the large piece of furniture next to the mantle. Maybe a red tone to pick up the red in the curtains and rug. I thought of saying "paint the mirror black", but I was not sure how that would look with a brown mantle. What about brown to tie in with the tables?
It takes me a long time, too, to pick just the right color for accents.
What space is behind each of the sofa's?

I really like it. I like the all-over pattern and the colors look great. Hard to say about size. It seems okay, but you can't tell from the pictures exactly how big the room is. Also, regarding arrangement, it's hard to tell from the pictures what might work better. I would tend toward a more traditional L-shape like mentioned above, but you need to like how it feels.

I love your cabinet, btw. The pics are a little small, so it's hard to see detail of the mirror, but I think it looks nice the way it is. Maybe it is expresso and that may not work with the wood on the mantle and the cabinet...but in the picture it actually looks black and looks nice.

Thanks everyone! The mirror is actually done in a green color with some decorative painting on it in a sort of botanical design. I was *thinking* about painting the outside edges of the mirror black, the front flat part the red in the room and then having some of those vinyl "wall words" done in a custom fashion to go around the frame of the mirror in black. I was thinking "Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Deeply" in a script font. What do you think?

I love the rug but just wish it was a bit bigger. It is a 9X12 and my furniture doesn't fit all the way on it. I switched the furniture to an L-shape and the back legs of the chair and sofa are off of the rug. I don't think that this one comes any larger. Hmmmnn...

The mantel is really bothering me in brown. Do you guys really think it would be too much black on that wall if I painted it black? Maybe I should paint it back to the trim color.

I think as long as the front legs are on the rug it's fine - that's what a lot of people do. Maybe take a look in some magazines or pictures posted here to see what you think. To me it looks/sounds like a good size and it's really pretty.

Is the mantel stained or painted? If it's stained I would not paint it - a wood mantle is very pretty. Plus, I don't think you'd want everthing to match completley.

Personally, I wouldn't do all that to the mirror, but that's me. I wouldn't care for the lettering, but everyone likes different things so if you like it go for it! :) I think painting it black, maybe a little distressed would be nice. But again, it's a little hard to see in the pics.

Again, beautiful room. Are you having the drapes made or maybe you are making them? I am searching for fabric for my windows right now, looks like you found something perfect for your room.

Love the rug, where did you get it. Your color scheme is very pretty. I am not sure about the mirror, its a pretty mirror, I am not sure if its right over the fireplace. I think I would like 2 narrow pictures hung side by side with two tall greenry/feather vases flanked on either side.....or the mirror needs to be higher. A nice mantle clock on the mantle would look nice.
