Great feeling to know someone is watching out for you!

Nosy neighbors are the best! And I am one too. If I see something "odd", I will call and check if everything is ok. Some of my neighbors do the same for me.

I keep thinking of the older women that was dead inside her garage for 6 years before someone checked. I find this so very sad. She might not have been the best neighbor but she did deserve better.

I love that too. I and several of my neighbors are that way. Two of them have a key to my house and vice versa. Any time we are away with the RV I know that my house is being watched. And we keep in touch by email daily. We usually go to lunch once a week or so.

Good neighbors are worth so much.

I agree. My next door neighbor and I trade cat watching if one of us is gone overnight. Have keys to each others homes and keep an eye out for strangers. Not much goes on here, but its nice to know that we are watching out for each other :-)

I have an elderly neighbor and we watch to make sure her newspaper is taken in each day. She has NO family in the area and has never been married. She comes to our house to make long distance calls, she will not pay for this expense or to have my husband do something for her on the computer. She is a sad case. She has told us if we would find her on the floor of her home to not call 911 unless she tells us too. So we have been told and we will still call 911. I do have her brothers number and we will call him in Wisconsin. She is an odd person.

I miss that feeling...we had retired teacher in the condo next door who would watch as we did her her....but the last 2 buyers? never knew what happen to the one elder couple and the newest works for dte (utility co) so he's never home...

For me, the line between being helpful and observant versus obnoxiously nosy is easy to find. I have no time for people who feel they need to keep track of what's going on in other peoples' lives. Think about this one - if an evil doer had just walked into oklamoni's house, would she be answering the phone?

People who aren't nosy don't spend their time looking out the window to see all the comings and goings at neighbors' houses.

I feel lucky, my nearest neighbors are respectfully alert and also ready to trade favors as others have described. Someone walking into the house isn't an unusual event that I want to get a phone call about.

We will call a neighbor if there car light was left on, and sometimes we get a call when it looks like our garage door was left up.
For the most part, we have new neighbors who aren't as involved as the "old timers."
I think if you don't like the neighbor, then you would think they are nosy. If you have a good relationship, then you would think they are kind.

Had Moni not had a jacket on, which she reported to be unusual, the neighbor would not have called, it appears ...

... but, improbable as that sounds ... Moni might have come home with a cold heart!

Had the neighbor not had a reply to her call ... she might have come over to investigate ... or might have called a couple of neighbours to go over together ...or called 911, which may be somewhat doubtful, with such a low level of possible/probable cause.

Many of we old-timers who grew up in rural or some city areas where people did such looking out for one another take such actions for granted ... and appreciate them. Despite a certain propensity for gossip which sometimes accompanies such inter-relatedness of people's lives in their community.

After the death of an old lady of 85 in a fire in her house recently in our city, vandals stole some of her jewellery and mementoes ... and even broke the walls to steal copper pipes. Not much care shown for the issues and possessions of others in such an instance ... which, granted, is far different from the situation here.

My neighbor said a group of young boys pulled up in my driveway and were going to go hiking...he asked them to leave. YAY!

I love my nosey....looking through the trees neighbors!!!!!
