I was gonna say Spanx too and also pajamas bottoms. Mom taught us to cut a pair of silk, satin, or polyester PJs just below the knee. Worked perfectly when wearing pants that were too tight or made of fabric like you're talking about. The best part was the smoothing affect. Like wearing a slip smooths a dress over the body, the PJs smoothed the pants legs. I'm thinking the stitched lines of boxer shorts will also show from underneath like the panties will because they're too short.

Before Spanx. I (along with Oprah, I might add) cut Support Panty Hose to wear. I cut mine at almost knee level. You can't tell. There is no buldge.

I know you ruled out a thong...but I'm telling you it can do wonders for your behind. Even if you don't think you're a thong type, I wouldn't rule it out. If you're afraid it may be uncomfortable, find one that has a very thin string-- not a thick one, and you really may not even notice you are wearing it.

The link is another idea... they are more or less the control part of control top panty hose (but fit and feel like a girdle, IMHO). I find them to be a lot more uncomfortable than a thong, but you may like them. They make different lengths, and I think are a lot cheaper than the spandex stuff.

It took me 43 years to finally wear a thong and now I love them when I have the panty line issue. You do get used to them!

If the slacks are that thin, then it's possible that any little bumps or anything at all that you have going on back there will show thru too. That's why I don't like thongs or going without panties with some garments, there is nothing to smooth out a less-than-perfect bottom.

I would lounge thru the lingerie dept at your local dept. store and ask the saleslady for suggestions as to what they offer. And then try some one, I bought an undergarment for that very same reason once and had to return it because where it hit me further down on the legs left a line just as bad as a panty line. I think I ended up using cut off pantyhose under that pair of capris. They were off white, so commando wasn't even an option.

i would just toss the offending pants to the back of my closet...you're gonna spend way to much time looking for something to make you feel comfortable in them...liz...who seriously needs to clean out her closet of offending clothes..but GEESH then I would have nothing!!

I bought some (what some call old lady pants) the nylon kind that are like boxers with longer legs in a catalog maybe Vermont Country store or Dr Leonard's. if you do a google on them they might show them in their on-line catalog
They have a longer inside leg which helps if suffering from chafing.

wonder if a short version of silk thermal wear is made? (like in landsend's catalog...)

how about a pair of white tights you've cut to size?

I am in the same boat. Some of my dress slacks show my panty line and it drives me crazy. I can't stand to wear thongs either...it's like my butt got hungry and ate my underwear!

okay but those that wear a thong and 'clingy' fabric have no idea that their pants have crawled in their butt crack and are NOT coming out..

I have a pair of underwear I got when I was pregnant, that I've kept just for no panty line pants.. The are very light weight, super stretchy full panty.

I agree with the pantyhose but have to ask.....have you tried to buy pantyhose lately? OMG, they are getting scarce!! I had to order them online to get the style, color and size I wanted!

I know they may be out of fashion to many but I love the finished look that they give. I just don't feel 'dressed' without them.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I didn't just dismiss a thong without trying them. I own a pair and have worn them 5 or 6 times, thinking I would eventually get used to them. Not going to happen! I don't want to wear hose under my pants because I live in Mississippi.... HOT, HOT, HOT in the summer. I may try cutting a pair of pantyhose off though. I had never thought of that. I may also check out the spanx... I'm not familiar with those so may check out that possibility!

Nope, I don't have bumps or anything else. But I don't like a panty line. That's when you must wear a thong. If I can get used to them, anyone can.
