Nice shots....it is a beautiful time of the year, when the snow paints eveything but has not yet gotten bitterly cold. We have 55 inches of snow so far near the lakeshore with 80+ slightly inland. It looks like one of those years. It will be 50 degrees today but those type of days will be a memory soon.

The best larkspur I ever have are the ones that self sow. They are always larger and earlier than the ones I sow in the spring. I am in zone 5 and they reliably reappear every year so I don't think you will have problems in zone 7. That said, when I have tried to fall sow I have had mixed results. Maybe I sowed them too late? tswiii, Most covers are designed to either transfer heat to the pool or for safety. In your area I would think that any plastic cover would transfer heat. Evaporation is a function of temperature. If your auto-fill is running all the time, perhaps you have a leak. With the heat and wind in your area you can probably expect a loss of 1/2" per day. You might check with a local PB for the norm. Lorabell- I don't have a lot of answers for you. Chard, kale, lettuces, broccholi...all should have been planted way earlier or early spring. This forum is so dead, that I can find my posts from a year ago (on how dead the forum IS) Do some searches on this board and also the cottage garden board to get some ideas, though! When I was looking up old discussions about wireworms for someone, I came across this series of comments from 2013 that you might find interesting... Hmm if you were concerned about brittle tubers you could make a modified bulb cage , maybe deeper than the one in the photo but with a cutout on the top for the stem , going to build some myself next year to make lifting bulbs easier Cici Vacation Hamari Accord and Light Accord both have very long thin tubers that are really easy to break during digging. One grower uses open-bottomed pots around the starter tuber to encourage new tuber growth to point down, allowing safer digging in the fall. Interesting That's an idea. I think with the wire bulb cage you'd end up with the wires in the tubers as they expand through a hole. Rather like a tree trunk or branch growing around fence wire.
