A great breast cancer gift for sister

I got for sister when she comes to visit me....

A PINK hammer!!! I am so excited! It is a regular 13 oz hammer done in pink on the handle. It is adorable. She will be so suprised. On the side of it says "hammer out breat cancer"

I am starting to put away gifts for her. If all goes well with her radiation, she will be here in May.

I am going to start putting pictures together to make a DVD of our lives growing up, and put it to music. She is going to be so shocked.

I am having so much fun with this, and keeping it secret too will be very hard.

That sounds like a very nice thing to do,and i'm sure she'll love it.Good for you for thinking ahead .I wish your sister Great success in her battle.I have 2 sisters that are BC survivors for 9 and 11 years.

Awww..Trinity..that is so sweet & thoughtful of you! You must have a very special Sister! I'm not surprised though..because SHE has a VERY SPECIAL SISTER too! *S*

BTDT....and bought the Tee shirt I would suggest something to make her laugh....and make her laugh again and again. Sorry I don't do "inspirational meditation" type music....but your friend may. My tastes lie more in something like Beethoven's 5th piano concerto, which I find really powerful "go get 'em" music. Perhaps a funny movie....even if it's an oldie but goodie....and anything that will make her feel like her old self. I don't know your friend....so can't suggest specific things, but for me it was something like wild earrings and a hat that said "Outta my way I'm curing cancer". But you know your friend....maybe she's the simple pearl earring type... Easy on the ginger though if she's doing chemo....her mouth well may be too sore. One of the most disconcerting things for me was the loss of not only my hair, which I could easily disguise with a wig, but the loss of eyebrows and eye lashes. I hated the look of drawn on eye brows....but someone showed me a brush on eye brow color that looked much more real. Your friend is lucky to have you and her support system. Shannon, thanks for responding again & sharing more about yourself and family. I feel you really understand both sides of the coin; being the one with the diagnosis and being the loved one of that person. You are a very compassionate person who can put yourself in others' shoes. Auntjen...thanks for the hugs and good wishes. I appreciated your support! Texanjana, thanks so very much for your empathy & for your prayers. There has been a new development. Day before yesterday when my sister went to get her chest x-ray for pre-admission/pre-surgery, they found "something" on her lung. Today she had a CT done. Just talked to Peggy and all they determined via the CT was that there is a "mass" on her lung. The details still remain sketchy. They want to do a "fine needle aspiration" & a PET scan next week. She needs to call Monday to schedule those tests as no one was around this afternoon to do that. They have cancelled the surgery for Tuesday. She's hanging in there! I think she's looking forward to having a quiet day at home tomorrow (no tests) to "chill out!" Then we'll all be over to bug her on Sunday! Hopefully by the end of next week we'll have a better idea of exactly what she has & how it should be treated. Again, thanks to each of you for your interest, support and prayers.

You all are making me cry now.......you have all been there for us during this whole time. I wanted to share and many of you played large parts in some of the things I have sent her, and your stories that I relayed to her. We are all part of her healing process. There are so many of us that are going through this or have been through it. What a wonderful thing to put your story to paper, you never know when something you say, may make a difference in somebodys life. When Mary Jo was at the Relay for Life in her town, she saw a huge sign someone was holding, it said "Heaven can wait" I have a picture of it in fact, and plan on doing something with that and this article. Just those three words inspired her, and those three words make me tear up every time I see them. If you go to the link there are three other stories that are very heart warming too. She is going to send me the actual copy of the paper, and I think I will have it framed for her for Christmas...along with a T-shirt that says, "No really, I'm Fine" Trin

I'm not knowledgeable but would like you to get some help. There is a very nice forum called Kitchen Table. It is made of mostly women of all ages and I would love to see you put it there. It is very active and the members have been through many things. This site for some reason isn't active. However, two women were very helpful when I had sciatica problems. When I asked about in on The Kitchen Table I had about 43 replies. So good luck and try them out.

That's a fantastic present for your sister. I'm sure that she will treasure it always.

I had breast cancer (I'm fine now, but of course, there's always a little worry about reoccurrence). My all time favorite present was a music box from my sister where part of the proceeds went to fight breast cancer.

The music box is in the "Promise of Hope" series, and my particular music box is called "Wings of Courage." If anyone ever wants more details about it, please email me through my page.

What makes my gift even more precious that my sister picked this out shortly before she died of ALS. She was paralyzed, but used voice recognition software on the computer to order this. It truly is a testament to her kindness, ingenuity, and bravery.

For their birthdays, I also created a DVD of family pictures for my sister and her twin. I used Picasa and it was very easy to use. What software are you planning to use? Also, for music, I used the song "Sisters" by Rosemary Clooney. I'd love to hear how your project turns out.

I'll keep your sister in my thoughts and prayers. Having a great sister like you will definitely help her.
