Well Ron, I just had new beds dug in my backyard yesterday and lots of rich compost brought in, so I wish I lived close and I'd buy some plants from you.

Those cacti look great. My neighbors planted some along their front walk outside - I had never seen anyone in MO do that before, but they claim they do fine even with our sometimes brutal winters.

Love the cactus one too. Your Mom and Dad look so jolly and fun. Your mom's hair is beautiful. My mom is 82 and wants her hair to turn that beautiful white color, but it's a slow process for her. Blossom is still the prettiest dog.

This green house thing seems to be much bigger than it looked at first. IF that snow ever melts I'd like to see a picture from a distance to get an idea of the whole thing.

Ooohhh, that snow looks cold! I was surprised to see the cacti! Is it a good seller in your area? Can you plant it in the ground there or does it need to be kept in pots? I've tried growing it in pots here in Arizona and I usually "kill it with kindness" (too much water). Blossom looks beautiful and content, as always. Thanks for sharing! Bettye

patti, there are 10 greenhouses total. It would be difficult to get a picture that shows the whole setup. But, I'll see what I can do.

mamatoad, the cacti are mostly a hobby for Joel. Some of the succulents are divided and then sold in dish gardens or individual pots. There're definately not hardy here and are kept in pots.

10 greenhouses - that's a lot of work! I think it's wonderful that both of your parents seem to be doing so well and how sweet that your Mom baked cookies. You must have some great genes in your family.

I got my taste of spring this week. Our florist gave me Exhibitor tickets to the Philadelphia Flower Show which meant I could go the day before it opened to the public and I can also enter every morning an hour before it opens.
How lucky can a girl get?

We went on Saturday and walked around for hours. It is just amazing. The exhibitor's truck in tons of dirt, pavers, full size trees, ponds, bridges, boats and even fake alligators (the theme was "Jazz it Up" and had a Louisiana motif). The orchids are spectacular and there are so many plants that I've never seen before.

And I tried to be good and not spend too much on all the wonderful things that the vendors bring in. After all you can only carry so much.

So thanks Ron for posting the pictures, I look forward to the progress each week. Hey - I even noticed today that my hellebores are blooming. Spring is coming.

I'll probably be returning to this post over the weekend for a mental break. Wish I could come and volunteer...I just LOVE plants, the smell of the earth, planting.....

You mom and dad look like a happy couple. How long have they been married?
I really enjoy seeing the pictures of Blossom. She reminds me a little of Mike's Ruger and a little of my sweet Bear who I still miss so much.

Looks like you've been working hard! Your parents sure don't look their age. Lucky you--inheriting those genes!! Do you have any jade plants? I thought I saw some but not sure if that's what they are. I finally found one--I love those things--no work.

To answer a few questions:
Dad and Mom have been married 57 years as of last Sept.
The temps. vary in the greenhouses. Some houses run cooler (55 at night and 65 to 70 during the day) for the pansies and osteospermum while others like it warmer (70 at night and 75 to 80 during the day) such as the lantana and New Guniea Impatiens.
Good eyes patti43, yes, there is a jade in there. Joel has a variegated one but it's really slow growing.
