you need to get it set up properly they come set for use in the store and that is way off from what it should be at home. I had someone come to my house and totally adjust mine and it is awesome, Samsung also.
But you can read the book and start to adjust the settings your self it should not be the way you are describing at all. It should be crystal clear and every thing very readable. If it does not improve I would call for a tech to come check it out that is not right you may have a lemon.

I'm sure when you get it fully tweaked you will love it.

You have to tweak it. HD is crystal clear. You can count
blades of grass. The size of the screen doesn't matter.
We have a 44" with HD and it's awesome.

Thanks, glad I posted here. If I had gone to the manual I would have seen where the adjustments can be made. I'm wondering if I should try it or will I completely mess things up. Earlier I tried to set the time on a new digital clock and about took a fit! ha.

You guys are great.

I want to get a new tv, too. The 40 inch tv looks too big for my small den, where I watch tv, but the 32 looks much too small. I sit about 8 feet fro the screen. Has anyone regretted getting one that is too small or too big? What bells and whistles are important to you. I don't need a Smart TV.

I'm sure you will enjoy it once it is set up correctly, Schoolhouse. I dread the set up stage of any new electronic item.

Have you got the HDMI cable to hook it up with?
Also when we got our first one we had to call our cable company and tell them we wanted HD channels?
Not sure if you still need to do that but throwing it out there! ;)

Yes got the HD cable box and the HDMI cable. Signed on for HD channels.

I must tell you that I just finished watching "Spartacus, War of the Damned" on the StarzHD channel and it was AMAZING! I could see the hair in their noses. ha. Never knew until I watched it in HD what their clothes really looked like and the colors were spectacular. The picture filled the entire 46" screen too.

Now, I wonder if I fool around adjusting the other channels if I'm going to mess up the HD channels. Or do you adjust according to what you are watching? I have a basketball game on now on ESPN and it looks pretty good. I haven't touched any adjustments yet, I'll wait awhile.

didtired, I always figured why get a big screen tv and then sit a mile back to watch it? It will still look like a small screen tv from there. I know, it's not recommended to sit close but my chair is appx. 6' in front of the TV. The room isn't huge. One of my friends has a 60" LCD Sony, he's had it for a long time and I think he says he sits 8' from it!

My DH says they can't be too big.

When we got our first big screen, they came out from Best Buy and set it up and adjusted it. This time my DH did it (see above note) - I'm not sure why we needed a bigger one but we did. :)

yes you do have to be sure to get HD channels, we have Direct TV so that required them bringing us a new DVR that is an HD box. And you definitely should use the HDMI cable connections. Be careful where you buy the cables some places price them sky high. I buy them at biglots, recently got one at Lowes for $7. Online you can find them for cheap.

Men always think they need a bigger one.....

I took the 60 inch Samsung with me, when I left.... and been watching it all the time. Problem is, it is around the corner twice, and can not be seen from the dining table, nor the kitchen sink or stove. LOL

I bout a little vizio, a 19 inch one two weeks ago.

Love that one. Have it on a whole lot more, than I ever had the big one on.

Now, I don't miss anything while I cook, or wash dishes. LOL

Some day, I might even get the DVD player/recorder hooked up, to watch something I record.

But, all my TV watching is via antenna. I am to cheap to pay for cable or dish.

Moni

I lucked out in regards to the HDMI cable. When I bought my non-regional DVD player online they threw in an HDMI cable for free in case I ever got an HD tv and wanted to use it. At the time I bought the TV however I was clueless about the cable and was set to either buy the cable server's $25 cable or one from Walmart (like the young clerk at the cable company told me in a whisper over the phone). Then when I was cleaning and purging the TV cupboard in preparation, I found it still in it's box. Called
to see if they were interchangeable and they said of course.

Yes, cable is expensive, goes up every year. I have my computer modem with them too which is extra. Pay-for-View movies seem cheap but will add up if you rent more than you remembered, then get a shock when you get the bill.

The friend who has the 60" Sony said he will stop in when he's down this way sometime and check out the TV. I don't watch much daytime TV.

Hmm, so I guess a 40 inch tv will be okay for me. I don't want a monster tv. I already get HD channels with my cable box. Can't I just unscrew the cable from the back of my current tv and screw it into the new one? Also, what do I need to stream movies from Netflix or whatever? Some people have mentioned a Roku box. Not sure what that is about.

Does anyone else remember having to hold the set top antenna up while the family watched tv -- all three channels? The kids had to take turns doing that when I was little. Oh well, the good old days -- or at least the uncomplicated old days.

These things are so complicated now, it's really worth having someone come in and set it up properly. HD requires a special receiver and special cables. You also have to adjust your screen setup.

It used to be that some shows didn't broadcast in letterbox format, so if you had a rectangular TV and the show is broadcast in the old square format some settings would "stretch to fit" and that blurred the edges. Don't know if that still happens though.

We had ours set up by the two guys who delivered the set.

Well, I'm a happy camper. My friend came down this afternoon and the first thing he checked was to make sure this one setting was correct on my TV. It wasn't, it needed to be on 1080i and it wasn't. Made all the difference in the world. Plus, dummy me, didn't realize that I can watch most all my channels in HD by going to the 600s channels (on my cable server). Glad he showed me that.

The biggest chore was programming the cable remote so that I could turn the TV on and off and adjust volume with it instead of the TV remote. He spent a couple hours with that, even with directions - but got it figured out. But the volume control was even more difficult to do via directions that came with the remote, and being a guy he didn't want me to call the after hours tech number of the cable company for assistance. When I finally did, the girl walked him through that in under one minute. He couldn't believe it. Pretty funny.

So, all's well. I even rented "Breaking Dawn Pt.2" on On Demand awhile ago - got a coupon for one free movie so used that. It looked great. Thanks all.

I love friends like that. Yours sounds like a peach.
