Looking for camera...Interested in what you have

If you don't mind...Would like to know what kind of camera(s) you have and tell why and what, your likes or dislikes about them...(and if you wish a fave pic shot with it)...and I have another silly question...what is the diffence between a DSLR and SLR? I guess I'm not looking in the right places for that ?...ANyway, I thank you in advance...

Juanita, SLR stands for single-lens reflex. It usually refers to a 35mm camera. There are also twin-lens reflexes, but you don't hear about them much anymore. SLRs enable you to look through the lens, to see precisely what you are photographing. DSLR is the digital version of the SLR.

I own two Canon cameras. My first camera is the S40 Powershot It has 4 megapixels, shoots raw and has quite a few modes. I upgraded to the S80 in March. It is an 8 megapixel camera, but doesn't shoot in raw. Which is fine by me. It has a lot of modes (snow, beach, foliage, portrait, digital macro, pets and children), can make little mini movies, uses the TV, AV, M, P and C functions. You can do selective colouring right on the camera. Although selective colouring looks better when you photoshop a picture. It's lightweight, and VERY easy to use.

I am hoping to one day own the Canon Digital Rebel XTi. A co-worker has it and says it's one of the best camera's he owns. And he owns quite a few. But that's a dream and because my S80 is still quite new, it's a dream I'll have for quite some time........ sigh.......

Thanks for your suggestions. The three leaf one that was called Montana seemed to me to be more green than the Regal Splendor I have. They are shaped the same and flower the same. I was wondering about Tom Schmid which seems to have a more narrow edge. Whatever it is, it's slower than molasses. Three leaves for three years. Maybe I'll call it snail. Phil, I agree I don't think my plant is Fringe Benefit. Descriptions say it's similar to Gold Crown which this one isn't. It's reminded me more and more every year of Frances Williams with no burning. You have Olive Baily Langdon, could you post a picture of it? Pat I will move almost all of the potted ones into the garage but that will be way less than last year. Most in pots now are duplicates or ones that survived last winter in a pot when so many didn't. I got two more into the ground today and will try for more in the next few weeks. Carol, the walkway is holding up great. I did have to touch up the paint this spring since I'd thined it last year. I didn't want to get a thick paint that would peel. Ken, the Lk. Symphony doesn't seem like my 3 August Moons which are more round and puckered. I wondered if it had reverted back to it's Piedmont Gold parent but it doesn't seem like that either. It's not nearly as bright or as large. The one called Sky which was suppose to be ADG was a mail order. I looked back at what they offered in large blues in that year and narrowed it down to either Big Momma (pictures differ on that one) or Bressingham Blue. It is more likely the latter. You are the one that correctly pointed me in the right direction last year with Paradigam, not Blue Shadows, and Honeybells, not Royal Standard. Now the Montana Mac. is a puzzler. I got that one Mail Order in 1996 from a Canadian mail order that is not in business any more. I knew it wasn't the Aureo. one I'd ordered because no varigation. I looked at what they had and they must have had Montana Mac. because that's what I concluded it was. It was very, very small for several years. About year 4 it started growing and looking like something. Today I checked out what I could find on Elator and Montana Mac. My plant seems to hover between the two. The description of the flowering puts it with the Montana. I am going to include some pictures from different years to show the flowers. It has flowers just peeking above the foilage in early June. It is finished by mid July when the Elator is suppose to be starting. The flowers are slightly lavander and tall but not 8 feet. The description of the leaf itself fits Elaitor except that it is not what I would call a light green, more medium to dark. It is shinny and so is the underside (Montana has a slight bloom according to the books). It also has 14 vein pairs which makes it Elaitor. So...if it's Elaitor, why does it flower so early? I looked around today and those plants flowering now are right on schedule. See if these pictures make any sense. I know the picture I first posted on this thread made the leaves look rounder. Is that what made you think it wasn't Montana? In a couple of these new pictures it looks more pointed. It is definately shinny though. Do you have both plants? Is Montana Mac. more like an unruffled Niagara Falls?

Where do you live? I have a gold brugmansia that was sold as a red, but it's pretty any way! Have cuttings started for a blue butterfly bush, bleeding heart vine, duranta (white, dark purple, lavender) and we'll see what propogates before our spring plant swap in San Antonio.

We selected the ledge lounger signature chair with tall back after trying them all out. The salesman said that many of their customers favored the chair over the lounger. The standard lounger is difficult to get out of, especially if you are of a certain age, if you know what I mean. I also opted for the granite grey color for ease of cleaning.

Yes. I was 17 and worked at Subway. I had been there 2, almost 3 years and wasn't really even offered the job. I was told I was being made manager, and getting a whooping salary of 9 whole dollars an hour. I accepted because I was 17 and dumb. While I have no issue confronting problems with staff ,suppliers or customers, I had no desire to either. After a year or so of it, I went to a temp service and asked them to find me night shift industrial work. I had enrolled in college and did not need or want the extra stress of being paid pennies for a thankless position full of stress and responsibility. I found I enjoyed being able to clock in, work, clock out and FORGET ABOUT WORK. I was only responsible for my actions, no one depended on me. No one was calling me with problems, no one was giving out my phone number to angry shrews who took offense to the tomato selection that day. And I was making twice as much. That was enough. I did not finish college because I took issue with what I saw and still see as the huge scam they are running. But through my experience I found my way to the job I have now which I really really enjoy. A few years ago my supervisor died suddenly. We all knew who was going to be our next supervisor, the only issue was they tended to go with seniority, and both myself and the other night minion had seniority over him. HR called and asked "Um, you don't want that position do you?" To which I assured her that no, I did not, and no, I take no issue with the said person being my supervisor. I wish to be a worker bee. I no longer have ANY desire to be over anyone or any department. I do not want to trade my low stress living for those problems. I want to come in, clock in, do the necessary work, maybe a little gardening, decorate for the holidays, walk every night, and then clock out and go home. And collect a check, that is the ultimate objective here. I truly feel as though I have hit the jackpot with this job, even if it has a few...challenges. (coworkers) In your case, if those people are unwilling to submit to your authority or create a hostile environment or wish to quit because of their opinion on staffing, then good riddance. It is not their business and therefore their opinion on who should run it should not matter to anyone. Be extra kind and hold the door all the way open for them to walk out.

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I love it. It's so versitile and compatible with numerous lenses. Very easy to use. There are several preset settings, plus it's simple to change it to manually be able to control the shutter speed, apeture value, and the ISO speed. It can take raw pictures as well.
It's well worth the money to get a SLR camera because you can always get extra lenses for it. The standard lense is an 18-55mm. I also purchased a 28-210mm on ebay for a great price. The larger lense allows me to zoom in so much better than any other camera I've ever had. I've also purchased numerous filters that do wonders.
Before you buy I definitely advise you to shop around. I have found amazon and ebay to be the cheapest for cameras and accessories.

yes it's the Blue Angels! Every other year there's an airshow at the local airport. I have a business about 1/2 mile from the end of the runway. I took this picture the day before the airshow when they were just "playing" around.

Olympus E500, E1, SP500
Canon 350XT, A530

My favorite is the E500. There isnt a better deal out there for an entry level kit.
Two very good lenses and body for $699. You can find some stacked kits as well for about the same price. For compact I like my A530. it allows me full manual control and has a good sensor in it.

remember one thing, the camera is just the tool. You can take a great picture with just about any camera out there, you just have to know how to use it. There a lot of people that have nice cameras with no idea how to use them.

I have a canon powershot A85, a canon z135. I am going to buy me a Nikon D80 in 07!

Joe, I was looking at the Oly sp510, I see one of yours is an sp500, Do you have any pics taken with that?

I am looking in the Oly, Fuji (this P&S E500 has done me well) and Nikon families with a price range of 400 to 600 depends if lens are included...I know there'is no perfect camera, that there are flaws...

Photograghy is mostly a fanatically hobby right now, but the possibilities may lead further later. Interested in macros,landscapes...Not good with people photos with my problem being it has to be perfect bg while all are being selves...An occasional portrait style, but that usually doesn't happen much...I read the reviews and opinions then my head becomes jumbled and swimming then I end up not knowing what I really want...But want to upgrade a little more...Here's another silly question what does it mean to shoot in the raw? should it be a factor?

My goal is to eventually be able to do no editing or little...that may call for the pricier ones but not at this moment...

I have only taken a few pictures with the SP500, then my dad borrowed for trip, I haven't seen it since. I dig them out when I get home. It is a good camera with a decent lens on it. The image processor is great too.

.raw - 'raw' is a file type like '.jpg', '.gif', & 'bmp'. It allows more flexibility when editing photos. It helps for better manipulation when you need to manipulate the White Balance or recover details in shadows and highlights, the files are HUGE though. An 8MP raw file is 3-4mb and it slows down your camera when taking pictures if you donÂt have decent buffer or a high write speed card.

As far as not doing any editing, I hate it too, that depends on how good of a photographer you become. The only photo that has any editing is the one of the couple, I increased the exposure +.11 and that was it. The only my camera forced me to edit my pictures is when I am at ISO 1000, which I donÂt do very often anyhow.
