Hoar Frost photos

I was lucky to have yesterday off from work so I was able to go out and take hoar frost photos around our yard. It was fun but I had to come in a couple of times to have my feet warm up, so cold.

Those are beautiful.

When I start taking winter closeups like that, I am reminded of how many more words the Eskimos have for snow and ice and winter precipitation. Our language just doesn't do justice to the myriad forms of snow and ice.

I bought them at our local Lowe's in early May... was the first time I've seen them there. The plant label says grown by Proven WinnersÂ®. (Oops...just looking and I see that it says Euphorbia "Diamond Frost", not "Jack Frost"!) It says "heat tolerant, drought tolerant, deer resistant. Hardy to 40ÂºF." So it looks like I will have to try overwintering inside!

It's been like that for the last two mornings here...The pines out front have just been beautiful.....I was too lazy to get dressed and go out there with my camera. Maybe tomorrow...but I don't think we have the fog tonight. Yesterday evening while there was still some light, the fog had come...the hill out back was covered in the fog. You couldn't see the hill or any of the trees out there. It looked like the end of our yard just met a wall, a white wall all the way up...there was no visible sky. Just white. It was beautiful and just a little scary feeling.

Russ, A friend in Hawaii sent me a Gold Hahnii that was very light and a lot more yellow. After a few years growing with my others, they started to look more and more alike. Seems growing conditions make more of a difference than the exact cult. My white albino that grew from a Gold Hahnii leaf cutting has started to turn more yellow and has some green in it. Still only about an inch high so it's iffy if it will survive. There's a new cultivar that starts out all yellow and then develops more green in the leaves as they mature. Call Hahnii 'Philippine'.

Those are so pretty! They showed a hoarfrost on the weather on 11 the other night.
I must have gotten up too late that day or we didn't have any.

Oh, my, they showed a hoarfrost...that doesn't sound good! I meant a hoarfrost PHOTO!

Very nice! I like the crystalized ice in some of the photos.

I am puzzled by the little circle in the top of the first photo. Perhaps a falling drop? Interesting...

Kt, the hoar frost was all so glittery with the sunshining on it, I wish I could have captured it better. It was so pretty, that circle is just the glare of the sun off some frost.
