Comments (10)IdaClaire I don't want to see businesses shilling their products here. Such posts, under the guise of "helpful advice" degrade the integrity and longstanding intent of these forums (and I've had many years of active forum participation). What's to stop these forums from becoming just one ad after another? Nobody wants that (except perhaps those who only participate in hopes of making a buck). Pros that offer their own products or services in response to a query have a vested and biased interest. It makes me sad that such things are even allowed here. And yes, I do flag this stuff as spam and will continue to do so. There's a lot of poor and amateur advice here on this forum, and I'm in the business going on my 35th year now. I swing by to help out when I can just in the same way I help the lady next door change a flat tire on her car. I have never got a single order off of HOUZZ that I'm aware of. But this is the appreciation given for the professional expertise and experience which is FREE? Vested and Bias interest? <rolling eyes>. My wife says "Why do you even bother with doing that? That's the best use of your time?" At least the lady whose tire I changed will say Thank You instead of telling me I'm out to sell her a brake job....See MoreIs the price for the cabinets reasonable?***DESIGN HELP
Comments (39)I agree that plan from an online company isn't any better. What is your budget for this kitchen remodel? You haven't stated, unless I missed it. You're not going to get rid of the angles in your home, unless you are looking to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. At that point, one would seriously consider "moving up" to a different home. And if you ARE in the territory of a major home remodel, then shopping for kitchen cabinets isn't the first thing you need to worry about. I would like to say, again, that I don't dislike your current kitchen layout. What are the issues FOR YOU, that you would like to see fixed in there? WHY do you want to remodel? If it's just to spiff it up and modernize it, then don't change the layout! Change the things you need to change (in your kitchen) and save your money for other "spiffing up" that you may like to do for the whole house. A remodeled kitchen in a similarly "dated" (I don't mean "dated" in a negative way--just an unspiffed-up home) home can often make the other areas seem like they don't belong. I mean, if you move the island, you're going to need to re-do the flooring, which means, probably, the whole downstairs needs new flooring; and there goes $40K right there. How about making the staircase and the upstairs look as good as the downstairs? And off you go. Edited to add that I now see where your concerns are a passthrough on the other side of the sink, and a bigger island. Girl, the pass through will take away cabinets and counter space. Exchanging that for a somewhat bigger island (which you don't have room for), won't get your more cabinets, nor more counter space. You need to learn to LOVE what you HAVE. You have an enormous kitchen. There is nothing magical about an "island" which are hot these days. But you have a peninsula which is awesome, in your space. Just my opinion....See MoreCentral air unit blowing warm air - reasonable price for fixing?
Comments (16)Bear in mind, if you replace an R22 condenser with an R410a condenser, the R22 coil may explode as soon as you turn it on! naw, it can leak though if that happens replace the Evap Coil. I've done this operation many times too many to count. A skilled tech should be able to repair that leak in the condenser coil. I wouldn't expect a repair like that to last more than a year or two. (I've done it before only to come back to another leak.) If you were keeping the house, replacing that condenser coil at a minimum would be the better idea. (you know if you like to gamble) Since you intend to sell your home in the short term, I think you'll be well served to check with a local Realtor to determine whether replacing the unit will enhance the salability/selling price of your home. Nope. Doesn't matter much in a sellers market. If not in that good a market, a new unit would only help you sell it. Selling price is typically not affiliated with HVAC brand, make model or otherwise. RE price: Location, Location, Location. Comments (8)I feel like this was already posted? Too many variables to say if the price is "good", but its definitely in the normal range these days. If this is the same poster, I think I saw that you had another quote or two about the same price? That should pretty much confirm that for you. While I disagree with the Finallyhome person seemingly completely uninformed comment on price, she did make a good point about getting another quote if you didn't already do that. Just be sure that you compare apples to apples types of windows/companies....See Moresperez
